Norwegian offshore vessel owner DOF Rederi AS, a subsidiary of DOF, has sold the platform supply vessel Skandi Texel.DOF said Wednesday that the vessel had been sold to a Norwegian company. It did not say who the buyer was exactly, but it did say that the vessel would leave the oil services sector."The vessel will be delivered to the new owner with immediate effect and will depart from the oil service sector after the sale. The gain from the sale is approximately NOK 12 million."Skandi Texel is a 69.5 meters long vessel of the MT 6009S design which joined the DOF fleet in 2006 and has been working on long-term contracts mainly in the North Sea.

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) announces that the Dutch Directorate General for Public Works and Water Management (Rijkswaterstaat) intends to award the contract for the reinforcement of the Houtrib dike to Boskalis and its partner Van Oord. The contract carries a value of EUR 90 million of which Boskalis' share amounts to EUR 45 million. The project entails the reinforcement of the Houtrib dike on both sides with sand and rock over a distance of 25 kilometers. The activities will be carried out in the period 2017-2020. The dike reinforcement project is part the Dutch Flood Protection Program, an alliance of Rijkswaterstaat and all district water boards aimed at reinforcing primary dikes in a more innovative and robust manner.

At 135 meters long and 28 meters wide, the new ship is 5 meters taller and wider than her predecessors, C-Job said, though the new Texelstroom is still able to dock in the same port as the Dokter Wagenmaker.

Hybrid RoPax ferry Texelstroom has been delivered to Koninklijke N.V. Texels Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming (Royal TESO). This latest generation symmetrical ferry is powered by efficient, medium speed dual fuel engines of Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC). Texelstroom will be responsible for transporting up to 1,750 passengers and 350 vehicles between the port of Den Helder and the island of Texel. Royal TESO announced on May 8, 2014 that it had signed an agreement with the northern Spanish shipyard LaNaval for the construction of a new ferry.

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) announces that the Hollands Noorderkwartier district water board has awarded the contract to reinforce the Wadden Sea dike on the Dutch island of Texel to "Combinatie Tessel", a consortium consisting of Boskalis and KWS, a VolkerWessels company. The contract carries a value of EUR 70 million, of which Boskalis' share is EUR 50 million. Large parts of the Wadden Sea dike on Texel currently do not meet legal safety requirements. The flood defences need to be reinforced to meet these requirements in the future. The project involves the design and construction of the reinforcement of 14 kilometres of Wadden Sea dike and the construction of a number of new structures, including three pumping stations.

Firefighting led a stream of topical debate at trade association Interferry’s 40th annual conference in Copenhagen last week – but not before a record 342 delegates came under fire from a leading Green politician claiming that ‘shipping is currently one of the unaddressed areas of air pollution’. Michael Cramer, German chair of the European Parliament’s transport and tourism committee, delivered a stinging opening address demanding that the ferry and shipping sectors become more environmentally sustainable. He said ‘most vessels are like hazardous waste incinerators because they burn heavy fuel oil which should be processed as highly toxic waste but is usually exhaled without sufficient filtering’.

The first months of operating the BlueTEC tidal energy platform have been a success, according to the BlueTEC Texel Tidal partnership: with every tidal flow, the platform supplies electricity into the Dutch national grid. The success has led project partners to work toward developing plans for the installation of a second, larger turbine. “Getting the platform from the drawing board to a grid-connected operating reality in just six months is amazing,” said Allard van Hoeken, Head of New Energy at Bluewater Energy Services and recent recipient of the first Prince Friso Engineers Award.

A new ferry is under construction in northern Spain to serve the Dutch island of Texel. The vessel is powered by four main engines from Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC) and split between two independent engine rooms, each of which can provide sufficient power to ensure normal service at least up to Beaufort 9 wind force. Two of the ABC engines are of diesel/CNG dual-fuel type, running at a maximum 1,000 rpm, and two are 750 rpm diesels, and each has a rated maximum output of just over 2,000 kW.

The first BlueTEC Tidal Energy platform was formally named by the Mayor of Texel, the Netherlands this morning. The floating platform, which holds tidal turbines below the sea surface, will soon be positioned near the island of Texel – supplying clean electricity to the Dutch grid. LaNaval Shipyard in Spain has laid the keel of the ferry Texelstroom on the 30th of December, that is building for the dutch company Royal N.V. Texels Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming (TESO), located in the island of Texel, at the north of The Netherlands. The ferry, which will be named “Texelstroom” is a new generation vessel for the transportation of up to 1,750 persons and 350 vehicles. She will have a dimensions of 135 meters length and 28 meters width and will be equipped with the latest technologies in the market, making a breakthrough in energy consumption and environment friendship. So, the Ferry will be powered by diesel-oil or alternatively Natural Gas, being helped also by electric batteries that will form an integral part of the advance energy management system.

A group of offshore companies, including Bluewater, Damen and Van Oord among others, has partnered for a floating tidal energy platform a project to generate clean electricity, marking the first time that a floating tidal platform is used for electricity production into the Dutch grid. Set to become operational in the first half of 2015, the BlueTEC platform, which will be moored near Texel in the Waddenzee, is of modular design and uses a new type of permanent mooring lines. The lifeboats a Fast Rescue Craft 903 - Twin, designed by Pieter Meuzelaar (Dutch Special Marine Group) and built by Habbeké Shipyard in Volendam. Cavotec say that their first automated mooring application in the Netherlands is in place as two MoorMaster units were delivered and carefully lowered into position at Port Den Helder. The units will be used by two TESO passenger ferries on the Den Helder-Texel Island route. With a length of 130m, the ferries can hold up to 300 cars and some 1,750 passengers. The MoorMaster units will enable ships’ engines to idle during each 10-minute boarding process. Previously, the ships’ engines were used to hold the vessels in position.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Government has awarded Damen Shipyards Group an order for a state-of-the-art, 80 m Ice Class ferry, which will operate on the Fogo Island-Change Islands service. Scheduled for delivery in September 2015, the 14-knot ro-ro ferry will be able to carry up to 200 passengers and 60 vehicles. The investment in the new ferry is part of the Government’s vessel renewal program. She will replace the aging MV Captain Earl Winsor.
