$1B Contract for Trio of Next-Gen Italian Navy Patrol Boats

As part of the OPV (Offshore Patrol Vessel) acquisition program of the Italian Navy (MM), Orizzonte Sistemi Navali (OSN), the joint venture owned by Fincantieri and Leonardo with stakes of 51% and 49% respectively, signed with the Directorate of Naval Armaments of the General Secretariat of Defence/DNA, the contract for the construction of three new generation patrol boats, with an option for three more.The value of the contract for the first three boats is $1B, including the related logistic support services. When completed the 2,300-ton vessels will measure 95m long and accommodate 97 crew.

Families of Missing in Greece Migrant Boat Disaster Plead for Recovery of Bodies

Since Matloob Hussain from Pakistan went missing during a deadly shipwreck off Greece last month, his brother Adil has left the door of his Athens home open in the hope he appears. It will stay open until his body is found.Matloob, 43, is among hundreds of migrants from Pakistan, Syria and Egypt who are presumed dead after their overcrowded fishing trawler, that set sail from Libya for Italy, sank off the coast of Pylos in international waters on June 14.A total of 104 men were rescued and 82 bodies were found.

Samskip to Operate 'Zero-emission' Hydrogen-powered Containerships

Algoma and Furetank Establish Product Tanker Joint Venture

Canadian shipping company Algoma Central Corporation announced it has entered into a joint venture agreement with Furetank AB of Sweden to construct four dual-fuel ice class 1A 17,999 DWT climate friendly product tankers to trade in Northern Europe. The 50/50 joint venture will be named FureBear.The tankers will be constructed at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Yangzhou, China, with delivery expected between 2023 and 2025. Upon completion, all four vessels will be entered into the Gothia Tanker Alliance, and will be operated by Furetank out of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Baudouin Unveils 6F21 Marine Engine

French engine manufacturer Moteurs Baudouin has unveiled the 6F21, its new 6-cylinder, 12.5-liter engine producing up to 735 kW/1000 HP.The 6F21 includes a strengthened engine structure to withstand high torque and a higher cylinder pressure well over 200 bar, the manufacturer said. A two-stage turbocharger system is also fitted on the engine, along with two intercoolers, and a high-end common rail system, operating at 2200 bar.
