AET Names New LNG Dual-fuel VLCC

AET, a member of the MISC Group, held a naming ceremony in Singapore for its latest liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel very large crude carrier (VLCC), Eagle Veracruz.The Singapore-flagged 300,000 dwt tanker was named by Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) Grace Fu, who is also the Lady Sponsor of the vessel. Singapore Registry of Ships Reaches 100 Million Gross Tonnage

The Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS) surpassed the 100 million gross tonnage (GT) milestone, with the registration of AET’s Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), Eagle Veracruz, on January 23, 2024.SRS is administered by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). Star Bulk and Eagle Bulk Agree to $2.1 Billion Merger

Dry bulk shipping companies Star Bulk Carriers and Eagle Bulk Shipping have reached a deal to merge in a $2.1 billion all-stock deal.The terms of the definitive agreement have received unanimous approval from the boards of directors of both New York-listed ocean carriers, and the companes expect the deal to close in the first half of 2024 following approvals from regulators and Eagle shareholder.Eagle shareholders will receive 2.6211 shares of Star Bulk common stock for each share of Eagle common stock owned.

The campaign will be carried out using the semisubmersible COSLInnovator. All four wells are production wells. The first well in the campaign will be a sidetrack of an existing well (B1z) on the Bittern field.

Among other improvements, the gantry crane will be extended by 25 meterss, making the vessel ready to handle the next generation of monopile foundations for offshore wind projects.The extension of the gantry crane, the most eye-catching upgrade, makes the Svanen one of the largest heavy-lift installation vessels worldwide.The extension, weighing 1200 tonnes, will be constructed by Holland Shipyards and installed using a 200-meter-high Mammoet crane.

Van Oord Awarded Offshore Wind Contracts in Baltic Sea and Taiwan

Van Oord has been awarded two new offshore wind projects: Baltic Power in the Baltic Sea and Greater Changhua 2b and 4 in Taiwan. The contracts have a combined value of more than EUR 500 million. Once operational, the two offshore wind farms will deliver renewable energy to approximately 2.5 million households.The Baltic Power offshore wind farm is being developed by a joint venture between ORLEN (Poland) and Northland Power (Canada). The wind farm will be located in the Polish Exclusive Economic Zone of the Baltic Sea, 23 kilometers from shore.

Van Oord contracts Jumbo Offshore

Jumbo Offshore was contracted by Van Oord for the transport and install of transition pieces for the Baltic Eagle offshore wind project in the German Baltic Sea. Operations on the project are to commence in October 2023.Under the contract, Jumbo Offshore will be responsible for transportation and installation (T&I) of transition pieces from the marshalling yard to the offshore wind farm site. “To date, Jumbo Offshore has transported and installed over 400 transition pieces with our DP2 heavy lift vessels,” said Brian Boutkan, Manager Commerce at Jumbo Offshore.

Brahman Express Returns to Port After Engine Room Fire

The livestock carrier Brahman Express suffered an engine room fire and returned to the Port of Darwin, Australia, on Wednesday.The vessel had approximately 3,600 cattle onboard and was bound for Indonesia when the incident occurred.No injuries to crew and no animal welfare issues have been reported.In a statement to ABC Rural, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority said it understood the fire was extinguished promptly.The livestock are expected to be discharged in Darwin.In May, the livestock carrier Nine Eagle experienced a major engine failure after leaving Darwin with 1,600 cattle onboard and was forced to return to port.

Cattle Offloaded from Disabled Livestock Carrier

The livestock carrier Nine Eagle suffered a major engine failure in the Port of Darwin, Australia, on May 15, while loaded with approximately 1,800 cattle.The Nine Eagle, built in 2006, is a converted general cargo ship currently flagged by Panama. The vessel was headed to Indonesia on charter for Perth-based company Livestock Shipping Services.The sourcing of parts to repair the engine is taking longer than anticipated, so the cattle were unloaded on May 21 and transported to a Pre-export Quarantine Facility where they will remain subject to biosecurity control until they can be exported.As well as animal welfare concerns, the ABC reports that the accumulation of manure onboard was a factor in the decision to unload the animals.

Solstad Rederi AS, a subsidiary of the Norwegian offshore vessel owner Solstad Offshore, has sold the AHTS Elang Laut 1.The 2009-built vessel has been in layup in Asia since 2019. Delivery of the vessel to the new owner took place today, July 3, 2023," Solstad Offshore said.Solstad Offshore said that the sale of the vessel, at one point known as Sea Eagle 1, will result in an immaterial accounting effect.Solstad Offshore did not say who the buyer of the Elang Laut 1 was.
