ExxonMobil Donates $18 mi to Houston Health Institutions

ExxonMobil today announced $18 million in grants to Houston health care facilities to support cancer prevention and cardiovascular research, expand pediatric care for children with autism and enhance pediatric liver disease research and clinical services. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center will receive $10 million; $5 million will go to the Texas Heart Institute and $3 million to Texas Children’s Hospital. “ExxonMobil has had a long and deep involvement with Houston and Texas,” said Rex W. Lanier Re-Appointed Port Commission, Houston

The Port of Houston Authority announced that Elyse Lanier has been re-appointed to serve as a member of the Port Commission, its governing body. The vote on October 12 by the Harris County Commissioners Court was unanimous. Commissioner Lanier was initially appointed to the Port Commission in February 2006. Port Commissioners serve two-year terms without pay. “Elyse Lanier is a prime example of the kind of people that make Houston and Harris County such a wonderful place to live and work,” said Harris County Judge Ed Emmett.

Towboat Invitational Raises $295k for Charity

On Monday, July 26, Foss Maritime, Harley Marine Services and Sause Bros. sponsored the 11th annual Towboat Invitational at The Golf Club at Newcastle. The tournament brings together almost 300 people in the towboat industry all raising money for two deserving organizations, The Heart Institute at Virginia Mason Medical Center and the Boys and Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon. Towboat 2010 was another sold out tournament despite the economic downturn within the marine industry.
