Corporate Counsel Blaine Edwards Wins Houston Award

Superior Energy Services (Superior) announce that the Houston Business Journal (HBJ) has recognized Blaine Edwards, a Superior assistant general counsel, as the Best Associate General Counsel of a Small Legal Department for the 2013 Best Corporate Counsel Awards. Founded eight years ago, this program seeks to recognize the most prominent companies and top, in-house lawyers who contributed to Houston’s economic success this past year. As the only in-house litigator at Superior, Edwards considers his job very challenging and rewarding. He is responsible for a varied, worldwide docket of cases.

US$44-million Houston Ship Channel Expansion Planned

Houston-based Oiltanking Partners LP to expand its terminal on the Houston Ship Channel to meet demand to export liquefied petroleum gas. Expansion plans include a new vessel dock and upgrades to existing ones and should be completed by the end of 2014. The expansion will take the loading capacity from its current rate of four million barrels per month to about 7.5 million barrels per month, reports Houston Business Journal. Oiltanking will provide import and export services from the expansion exclusively to Houston-based Enterprise Products Partners LP. Expansion plans include a new vessel dock and upgrades to existing ones and should be completed by the end of 2014.

US Container Manufacturer Listed Among Fastest Growing

Hoover Container Solutions, provider of liquid & bulk container systems, listed as one of Houston's top 100 fastest growing companies. Houston Business Journal's "Fast 100 List" ranks the fastest-growing private companies in the Houston area by percentage of growth in revenue from 2010-2011. Hoover has experienced 30% or greater annual revenue growth for three years in a row which is a direct result of its efforts to provide greater value to its customers. Kirby Reports Record Results

Houston-based Kirby announced record net income of $22.6 million, or 85 cents per share, on record revenue of $224.9 million for the first quarter ended March 31. That compares with income of $13.3 million, or 52 cents per share, on revenue of $184.4 million for the same period last year. Kirby also declared a two-for-one stock split of its common stock. Stockholders of record on May 10 will receive one additional share of common stock for each share of common stock held on that day. The additional shares will be distributed on May 31. Retired pipeline executive David L. Lemmon has been elected to Kirby Corp.'s board of directors. Lemmon replaces Robert G. Stone, Jr., who passed away on April 18. Lemmon served as president and CEO of Colonial Pipeline Co.

J.Ray McDermott Begins Construction on Casino Barges

The Houston Business Journal has reported that J. Ray McDermott Inc has begun construction on two specialty barges for Harrah's Entertainment Inc. The two casino barges currently under construction will become part of Harrah's Horseshoe Casino expansion project in Hammond, Ind. Each measures 276 feet long by 102 feet wide and 22 feet deep, with a weight of about 1,700 tons. They will be combined with four other barges being built elsewhere to create a 564-foot long, 320-foot wide casino vessel.
