Vinashin's Bank Loan Extended

According to a report from Viet Nam News, the government green-lighted a plan that will extend the loan payment period for Viet Nam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin). According to the Government Office, a new dispatch signed by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung said the Government agreed with the Ministry of Finance's proposal to extend the loan payment period for export credits.    (Source: Viet Nam News)

Vinashin Signs $2b in Contracts

The Viet Nam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin) signed 22 contracts worth $2b at Vietship, the country’s largest shipping exhibition being held in Ha Noi,  VNS said. The contracts, signed with both domestic and foreign partners, covered shipbuilding, maritime transportation, developing ancillary industries for ’s shipping fleet and financing and insurance, Vinashin said in its written statement. Noteworthy deals included a contract to build a 16,800 DWT cement carrying vessel for KGJS of Norway, a contract to build 16 cargo vessels for Jebsens of Norway and a contract to build a 11,000 DWT cargo ship for Kanematsu of Japan. Most of the nine shipbuilding contracts will not be delivered until after 2010. Source: VNS

Nam Trieu Begins Construction on 56,200 ton Vessel

According to VNS, Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, under the Viet Nam Shipbuilding Industry Group, began construction of a 56,200-tonne vessel, the first of three vessels for Japan’s Lavender Maritime S.A. The 623 ft. will be built under Japan’s NK Register in 22 months. Nam Trieu has also signed contracts to build four multi-purpose vessels worth $17m and vessels to transport automobiles capitalized at $2 billion. Source: VNS

Shipbuilder Reaches Out to Overseas Markets

The ship maker has freshly reached a 2 billion USD deal to build automobile-carrying freighters for the Hoegh Autolier Company of the Netherland, in addition to a contract with another Dutch company, Rensen, for four freighters worth 12m Euro. In an effort to meet high demands from overseas customers, the Nam Trieu company has been spending $168.75m in upgrading technology and expanding workplace to increase its building and repairing capacity to 100,000 tons. The company is expected to recruit an additional 3,000 workers this year to bring its total staff to 8,000.

Vietnam President Urges Vinashin to Increase Production

Vietnam President Nguyen Minh Triet said that he expected the Viet Nam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin) to increase its international profile by producing more ships for the world market. Triet made these comments at a meeting with company officials and the management board of the Dung Quat Shipbuilding Company in central Quang Ngai Province. Triet also visited the Dung Quat Oil Refinery Plant and held meetings with the management board. Deputy General Director of the Viet Nam Oil and Gas Corporation Truong Van Tien briefed the President on the progress of construction over the past year, and affirmed that the management board was working closely with the project contractor to resolve issues, particularly in speeding up construction. Vinashin to Build for Norway

The Viet Nam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin) signed a contract to supply eight car carriers to Norway’s Hoegh Auto liners, according to a report on http://vietnamnews.vnagency.com.vn. Each carrier will have a total loading capacity of 6,900 cars. "This is a landmark moment for Vinashin. It not only represents the capability of Vinashin to build large vessels, but also represents the rapid expansion of Vinashin in the international market," said Vinashin’s CEO Pham Thanh Binh. The carriers, reportedly designed by DeltaMarin of Finland, will measure 200 x 32.2 m with a cruising speed of 20.5 mph. The first carrier will be delivered in December 2009, with the remainder being delivered six months after that.

Vinashin Awarded Contracts

The Viet Nam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin) has snatched up two large contracts with UK partners worth $800m. The contracts were executed during the Viet Nam Days in the UK business forum on trade, investment and tourism last Friday in London. Vinashin inked a $100m deal with Graig Investment Ltd to build 25 ships and another to build a floating oil tank for the Viet Nam Oil and Gas Corporation (PetroVietnam), worth $680 million. The latter deal was signed with Monobuyo Co, Petromaritime Consulting and London Maritime Consultants. In 2003, Vinashin signed contracts with the company worth $500 million to build 6,500- and 12,000-DWT freighters and 13,000 DWT container ships. It also won another $322.5 million contract to build 15 cargo ships of 53,000 DWT each in 2004.

Vinashin Gets Nod for Restructuring

The Government Office announced a proposal to establish the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Economic Group (Vinashin Group) by restructuring the Viet Nam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin) had been approved. The Vinashin Group would become a multiple-owner business with the State holding a majority stake, comprised of State-owned and equitised subsidiaries, it said. Under the plan, the group would function as the financial investor for its other concerns, and control the capital holdings, technology, trademarks and markets of its subsidiary companies. The Government also issued official approval of the establishment of a holding company for the Ha Noi-based Viet Nam Shipbuilding Industry Group.
