Gazprom Uses Replacement Vessel to Maintain Gas Loadings

Russia's Gazprom is using a replacement vessel for ship-to-ship loadings (STS) of liquefied natural gas from its Portovaya LNG plant on the Baltic Sea while another ship is repaired, LSEG data showed on Monday.The floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Marshal Vasilevskiy is designed to supply Russia's Kaliningrad exclave, between Lithuania and Poland, and ensure its gas security in case of disruption to pipeline supplies from neighboring countries.According to LSEG data, the FSRU Marshal Vasilevskiy was on Monday loading LNG ship-to-ship near Kaliningrad onto the Cool Rover vessel, m

Group Set Up to Study Onboard Carbon Capture Technologies for Shipping Industry

US Receiving Last Russian Oil Cargoes Before Wind-down

Nine tankers carrying Russian-origin crude and fuel oil have discharged in the United States in April, likely the last ones to deliver before a wind-down set by Washington expires this week, customs and tanker tracking data showed.The United States last month set an April 22 ban on imports of Russian crude and refined products. The United States gave importers of Russian petroleum, liquefied natural gas and coal 45 days to take en route and under-contract cargoes.Tanker Seamagic, which loaded fuel oil at Russia’s Taman port, discharged at Valero Energy’s St. Charles, Louisiana, refinery last week, the last of the nine tracked to discharge.

US Lifts Some Venezuela-related Sanctions

The United States on Thursday lifted sanctions on Marshall Islands-based Delos Voyager Shipping Ltd and Greece-based Romina Maritime Co Inc that had been imposed last month over accusations the companies operated in the Venezuelan oil sector.The U.S. Treasury Department’s action lifted Venezuela-related sanctions on four companies, including Marshall-Islands based Adamant Maritime Ltd and Sanibel Shiptrade Ltd, as well as on four vessels.The move, which follows the delisting last month of other Greece- and Marshall Islands-based shipping firms, removed the remaining Greece-based companies blacklisted in June for transporting Venezuelan oil from the U.S.

Greek Ship Managers Halt Venezuela Trade as US Sanctions Bite

Oil Tankers Turn Away From Venezuela as More Sanctions Loom

Oil tankers that were sailing toward Venezuela have turned around and others have left the country’s waters as the United States considers blacklisting dozens of ships for transporting Venezuelan oil, according to shipping data and industry sources.The threat of tighter sanctions is already disrupting the global shipping market. Chinese oil firms are considering whether to decline to charter any tanker that has visited Venezuela in the past year, no matter where the ship is now or for what voyage, four shipping sources told Reuters on Tuesday.Washington is seeking to oust the socialist government of President Nicolas Maduro by choking the oil exports that provide its main source of income.

Chevron Oil Cargo Tangled in US' Venezuela Sanctions

Chevron Corp crude oil cargo has become embroiled in U.S. sanctions on shipping companies for violating restrictions on doing business with Venezuela, the company confirmed on Friday.Adamant Maritime Ltd, the owner of very large crude-oil carrier (VLCC) Seahero was sanctioned by the U.S. Department of Treasury on Tuesday for carrying a Venezuelan cargo in February. The vessel currently is heading to Asia after recently stopping in Trinidad and Tobago, according to vessel tracking data.The tanker on short term charter and "performing a voyage that is not related to Venezuela," Chevron spokesman Ray Fohr said. Harley to Lead Britannia's Greek Office

London based P&I club Britannia said it has finalized plans to open its Greek office in Piraeus as part of an ongoing expansion of the club’s regional hub network.The Greek office will be headed by David Harley who recently returned to the London office having established and worked for over five years as head of Britannia, Hong Kong. Harley will be assisted by newly appointed Konstantinos Samaritis, who joins from a Greek shipowner, having previously worked for both Standard and Skuld Clubs’ Greek operations.

GTT Bags Contract for LNG Carrier Tank Design

French engineering from GTT said it has received an order from South Korean shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries to design the tanks of a new 174,000 cbm liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier on behalf of Greek shipowner Thenamaris. The vessel's delivery is scheduled in September 2020.These tanks will be equipped with the Mark III Flex membrane containment system.Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT, said, "This new order reinforces our long-term partnership with Hyundai Heavy Industries, with whom we have managed more than 50 new builds. We are also very pleased to accompany, once more, Thenamaris on its vessels projects."

Dualog Wins 90-Ship Thenamaris Contract

Dualog, the digital platform at sea, has won a contract to handle the business email and data transfer needs for 90 vessels managed by Thenamaris of Greece.   Thenamaris, one of Greece’s most respected ship managers, operates a diversified fleet of tankers, bulk carriers, LNG and LPG vessels as well as containerships. It selected Dualog for its mission critical email platform as well as the ease of installation, service availability and customer support.   Services associated with the contract, which will involve changing and installing the fleet’s new email platform, should be completed by the end of October.

Hyundai Heavy Produces 5,000th Propeller

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has announced that it held the production ceremony of the 5,000th propeller at its Ulsan factory. The 5,000th propeller measuring 10.6 meters in diameter and 77 tons in weight is scheduled to be installed on a 300,000 DWT VLCC ordered from Athens-based Thenamaris by the end of this month. HHI is not just the only Korean propeller manufacturer capable of churning out large-sized ship propellers heavier than 40 tons, it also has the biggest pie in the global ship propeller market with the market share of 31% as of 2015. Since the production of its first propeller in 1985, HHI has achieved major production milestones with 100th propeller in 1987, 1,000th in 1999 and 2,000th in 2005. Since 2000, HHI has been producing 200 plus propellers annually.

China Exim Bank, SWS Sign $312m Financing Deal

Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding  (SWS), a  yard owned by the industrial conglomerate China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC), has secured a US$312million loan from the Export-Import Bank of China to build three 18,000 teu containerships. The deal marks the first time that SWS will be building large containerships of 18,000 teu in capacity. The new buildings will be deployed on the main Asia-Europe trading lanes and the charterer is one of the world’s top three biggest lines, according to CSSC. Founded in 1999, SWS is a wholly owned subsidiary of China CSSC Holding Ltd., a publicly listed company controlled by China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). The main business of SWS covers design, construction and repair of marine vessels and offshore products.

Class Direct App Launched by Lloyd’s Register

This new app, using the functionality of LR’s award-winning web service Class Direct, has been specifically designed to give users access to the information they need whenever and wherever, and is available now for free on iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Users of the Class Direct app are able to book a survey with LR, monitor and check the status of their vessel’s surveys, browse the classification data LR holds for specific vessels and create a list of their “favorite” vessels for quicker access.

Latest Commercial Shipbuilding Contracts

There has been a significant volume of shipbuilding business reported in the week according to Clarkson Hellas. The dry bulk fleet has seen a number of new additions this week. It was reported that SWS signed an additional order with Clients of Thenamaris for 1+1 180,000 DWT Capesize vessels, with the firm vessel lined up for delivery in 2015. Clients of Nordic Bulk Carriers placed an order for two firm 75,000 DWT Ice Class 1A bulk carriers at Oshima for delivery in 2015. Although pricing was not officially revealed, it is believed the contracts will be priced just over USD 30 Mill and include options for additional sister vessels. Oshima Shipbuilding are additionally reported to have signed a single 38,000 DWT bulk carrier for Clients of Ultrabulk with delivery in 2014.

Ship Sale & Purchase Market – Weekly Summing Up

A vessel reported to have been committed from the Japanese market is the handymax M/V SOLAR ASIA (46,658 dwt 1998 blt Mitsui) sold for US$ 12.5m to Chinese interest. Following the reported sale of the sister M/V NENA A clients of Fairsky Shipping have also committed of another handymax of the vessel series M/V NENA C (43,188 dwt 1994 blt Hyundai) for US$ 9.8m to Italian buyers. There are several rumours that M/V APEX BULKERS is also committed to undisclosed buyers for a price in the region of US$ 14m. The M/V EASTGATE (27,877 dwt 1990 blt Kanasashi) reported sold for a firm price in the region of US$ 5.75m to Ukrainian buyers while the 8 years younger M/V ATLANTIC KING (27,797 dwt 1998 blt Naikai) reported sold for a price slightly in excess of US$ 8.5m to Chinese buyers.
