On July 11-12, 2018, Maritime Administrator Mark Buzby met with ‎the Vietnam Maritime Administration\\'s (VINAMARINE) Administrator Dr. Nguyen Xuan Sang and Deputy Administrator Dr. Bui Thien Thu in Hanoi, Vietnam. This meeting, under the implementation of the US-Vietnam Bilateral Agreement, included discussions on the topics of maritime policy, vessels safety and security, port infrastructure development, maritime workforce and mariner training. On July 12th, Administrator Buzby visited the ports of Hai Phong and Lach Huyen. The US Coast Guard and US Department of State also participated.

Ahrenkiel Steamship has chosen to implement DNV GL’s ShipManager software on its entire fleet of 60 vessels. The implementation of ShipManager on the entire fleet of 60 vessels, including containerships and bulk carriers, is scheduled to start this year. Ahrenkiel Steamship, the newly formed German ship management company, will consolidate its entire fleet at DNV GL. Nick Topham managing director of Ahrenkiel Steamship and Tor E. Svensen, CEO of DNV GL - Maritime, signed the cooperation agreement at the SMM trade fair in Hamburg. Ahrenkiel Steamship currently has 62 ships under technical management, all of which will join the DNV GL fleet in service. Plans for developing the fleet managed by Ahrenkiel Steamship are already underway.

The littoral combat ship 'USS Freedom' (LCS 1) is participating in the Southeast Asia Cooperation and Training (SEACAT) exercise with several regional navies, including Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. SEACAT highlights the value of information sharing and multilateral cooperation in scenarios that give participating navies hands-on practice in maritime security operations. Freedom's participation includes several boarding events conducted with her embarked visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) teams, 11-meter rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIB) and MH-60R helicopter.

PPG Industries said the topsides of the USS Freedom, lead ship of the U.S Navy's littoral combat ships (LCS), have been repainted using AMERCOAT(R) 240 edge-retention epoxy and PSX(R) 700SG epoxy-polysiloxane coatings by PPG's protective and marine coatings (PMC) business. Commissioned in 2008, the USS Freedom went to dry dock in January 2013 to remove the existing coatings system because that system had failed. Trai Thien USA Inc (OTC Markets:TRTH), through its subsidiary Trai Thien Logistics, announced that it is planning to establish Singapore as a new Shipping and Trade Hub for the Company to expand ahead of the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community ("AEC") in 2015. Trai Thien USA (OTC Markets:TRTH) today announced that its six vessels are operating at full shipping capacity. The six vessels realized 26 trips in the first quarter 2012, and are projected to make a total of 120 intra-regional voyages for the 2012 fiscal year. When factoring in down time for scheduled maintenance and repairs, a TRTH vessel completes a commercial voyage every 18 days on average. The full operational capacity status reflects the ability of Company management to fulfill its long-term plan of becoming a key player in inter-ASEAN cargo shipping. The Royal Thai Navy has officially received the first Endurance-class landing platform dock ship, HTMS Angthong (LPD-791) at Laem Thien Port, Sattahip naval base in Chon Buri, Thailand. The design of the LPD is proprietary to ST Marine and is based on its Endurance Class of LPDs. In September the shipyard completed repairs on nine vessels with various descriptions on the jobs performed. Standard shiprepair jobs were performed on the 8,945 dwt reefer vessel Hudson Bay, owned by German company Thien & Heyenga, and the 5,782 dwt LPG vessel Gas Century, managed by Cyprus based Hanseatic Shipping. The 18,582 dwt product tanker Calitea, owned by CA LI SA, Italy underwent standard drydock works continuing the good cooperation between the shipyard and the owner (the vessel has been under repair and conversion several times in Viktor Lenac during the last few years). Leif Höegh & Co. ASA (LHC) has sold four "Crystal" class reefer vessels to Reederei F. Laeisz (2 vessels) and Thien & Heyenga GmbH on private terms. The "Crystal" vessels are built in 1992 and have a cargo capacity of 375 000 cbft. Delivery to the new owners will take place during the third quarter. The sale of these last wholly owned reefer vessels is concluded in accordance with the company's strategy to exit the reefer segment. After the sale LHC owns 36% of two reefers.

Aker Ostsee in Germany, a part of Aker Yards, has been awarded a contract to build two plus two container vessels for Thien & Heyenga Bereederungs- und Befrachtungsgesellschaft m.b.H. in Hamburg (Germany). The vessels are of the newly developed type Aker CS 1700. The total contract value is approximately EUR 120 million. The contract for two of the vessels is due to settlement of financial issues. The vessels are due to delivery in the second quarter of 2006 as well as in the first and second quarters of 2007. Thien & Heyenga ordered four 2,700 TEU container vessels in 2004 which will be delivered in the second half of 2006. The vessels of the type Aker CS 1700 are 182 m long and 25.2 m wide, with deadweight of about 24.200 t.
