Custom Yachts Feature Hybrid Battery Propulsion

A pair of custom motor yachts is packed with state-of-the-art features and technologies, most notable among them: hybrid propulsion systems. The two yachts may look different, but they are in fact the same design, with an exterior customized according to the owner’s preferences. Jona Takes Over as SVP at Cobham SATCOM

Cobham SATCOM has appointed Paul H. Jona as its new Senior Vice President (SVP). Starting March 03, 2014 Paul will work alongside incumbent SVP Walther Thygesen. After completing seven years of service as CEO of Thrane & Thrane A/S, and since July 2012 heading up Cobham SATCOM as SVP, Walther has decided to retire from his current duties in June 2014. Paul is a Dutch national born in Canada. He brings 30 years of experience in tech industries with him and his most recent position was CEO and Chairman of CoActive Technologies in The Netherlands, a $230M international company with 3,000 employees. Prior to this Paul was Senior Vice President and Corporate Officer of the Cable Systems Group at Amphenol Corporation.

Thrane & Thrane to Trade as Cobham SATCOM

Cobham plc has established a new strategic business unit (SBU) Cobham SATCOM: Thrane & Thrane will form its core. Headquartered in Denmark, Cobham SATCOM is led by Thrane & Thrane CEO Walther Thygesen with assistance from a multinational management team, and includes Cobham’s satcom facilities in Cape Town, South Africa, Concord, California and Orlando, Florida. Cobham SATCOM is now twice the size of what either Thrane & Thrane or Cobham’s legacy satcom businesses were prior to this coambination. Rebranding of Thrane & Thrane will begin immediately and is expected to complete during 2013. In addition to adopting the Cobham SATCOM name and Cobham’s brand, the SATCOM SBU will be rebranding its products throughout 2013.

Thrane & Thrane Completes Sailor 900 VSAT Delivery

In partnership with PRO NAUTAS and Vizada, Thrane & Thrane has completed delivery of its sophisticated SAILOR 900 VSAT and SAILOR 500 FleetBroadband systems as part of a total communications solution for Hansa Heavy Lift’s entire fleet of 21 multipurpose heavy-lift vessels. Installation and commissioning is expected to be completed on all vessels in July 2012. Based on the Vizada XChange platform with project implementation by PRO-NAUTAS, the SAILOR 900 VSAT and SAILOR 500 FleetBroadband together ensure fully redundant global broadband connectivity and voice services.

Vizada Signs Agreement with Danos Shipping

Vizada and Vizada Elite Partner SRH Marine Electronics S.A. have signed a 24-month agreement with Danaos Shipping Co. Ltd to equip the company’s fleet of vessels with a full broadband communications system. WRSystems Announces Two Key Appointments

W R Systems, Ltd. (WRSystems) announces two key appointments in its Maritime Technologies Division: Mr Arthur Thomas Senior joins as Vice President – Maritime Business and Mr Mike Kellner joins as Director – Maritime Business. Cobham Takes a 25% Stake in Thrane & Thrane

Cobham announced on March 12, 2012 that it had withdrawn its proposal to the Board of Thrane & Thrane A/S regarding apossible recommended offer for Thrane & Thrane at a price of $73.72 (DKK420) per share in cash, as the Board of Thrane & Thrane felt unable to recommend its proposal. Cobham reserved the right to reconsider its position at any time. In that announcement Cobham commented that its strategy is to build market leadership positions in its strategic business units, by investing in technology. SATCOM is one such technology and Thrane & Thrane remains an attractive potential partner.

Imtech Marine Inks VSAT and TVRO Contracts

Imtech Marine has recently signed Global Distribution and Service agreements for satellite communication (VSAT) and satellite TV (TVRO) products with three prominent manufacturers. Via its company Radio Holland, Imtech Marine already had (long) relationships with Intellian, Jotron and Thrane & Thrane, which are now extended for VSAT and TVRO. All Imtech Marine branches (80 around the world)  will supply, install, commission and service the  systems and arrange airtime. The agreements are in line with Imtech Marine’s multicard strategy, focussed on quality solutions. As a full service provider and system integrator Imtech Marine’strategy is focussed on life cycle management partnership and on increasing the value of the ship’s operations.

Marlink, Thrane & Thrane Agreement for Sailor 900 VSAT

Marlink and Thrane & Thrane have come to an agreement for the introduction of the brand new Thrane & Thrane SAILOR 900 VSAT antenna, which is commercially released in September 2011. Inmarsat Launches Voice Distress Service on Fleetbroadband

Inmarsat (LSE:ISAT) has announced the commercial availability of a new voice distress service on FleetBroadband. The free-to-use service ensures that, in the event of an emergency, all non-priority telephone calls underway on the vessel’s FleetBroadband are interrupted, connecting the caller directly to a Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC). The new voice distress service requires a simple software and hardware add-on, which provides a ‘red button’ for one-touch easy use. The new service also utilises the enhanced capability of the FleetBroadband network, as it simultaneously sends an email to the MRCC and network controllers to alert them to a call, providing additional data such as vessel name, identification and position.

New Vizada Broadband Packages

Buss Data to Receive Complete Broadband Communications Solution from Vizada and Telemar

Thrane & Thrane Starts Sailor 500

Thrane & Thrane started delivery of 200 Sailor 500 FleetBroadband terminals for implementation by partner, Polaris Electronics aboard the Maersk Line fleet. The roll-out follows shortly after A.P. Moller - Maersk signed a significant contract with Polaris Electronics for the supply of the terminals. Delivery completion is expected end October 2010.
