THE top three international employers and training providers shortlisted to compete to be crowned winners at the annual OPITO Safety and Competency Awards in Kuala Lumpur have been announced today (28th September, 2016). Shell Nigeria, Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) and McDermott are shortlisted in the Employer of the Year category, while PT Sampson Tiara, Wild Geese and Grupo Stier have been named in the OPITO approved Training Provider of the Year section. The winning companies in each category will be unveiled during the 2016 OPITO Safety & Competency Conference (OSCC), in partnership with PETRONAS, at The Royale Chulan, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Wednesday 16th November.

Backlog of vessels at port threaten loading delays; ships with half a million tonnes taking the long route to Europe. Unwanted diesel and jet fuel cargoes are backing up outside Europe's ports and taking longer, slower routes around the southern tip of Africa, traders say. A symptom of the world's excess of oil, it also paints a gloomy picture of the chance of an oil price rebound. The abundance of crude that roiled commodity markets and turned the balance sheets of oil majors on their head also encouraged under-pressure European oil refineries to run at full clip. Refineries from Rotterdam to India to Louisiana, drunk on cheap crude, ran regardless of whether the world wanted what they were making. Meteoric demand growth earlier this year for products such as gasoline masked the surplus.

Greece-based dry bulk shiping company, Globus Maritime has been pushed back into the black by miserable dry bulk rates, but the company has said that it is awaiting market improvements within 2015. George Karageorgiou, President, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Globus Maritime Limited, stated:  “The first quarter of 2015 was yet another challenging period for our company as our results were negatively affected by the continuation of a depressed dry bulk market with the Baltic Dry Index (BDI) reaching the lowest point in 30 years. “Despite the weak market, we reduced our weighted average debt outstanding by 10.2% to $82.1 million during the first quarter of 2015 compared to $91.4 million during the same period in 2014.

The winners of OPITO’s annual global oil and gas workforce safety awards have been announced in the presence of Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, the Minister of Energy for the United Arad Emirates. SBM and MSTS/Falck Safety Services Malaysia were yesterday (Tuesday, November 19) named Employer of the Year and Training Provider of the Year respectively at the OPITO Safety and Competency Conference in Abu Dhabi. Globus Maritime Limited (AIM: GLBS) (LSE: GLBS), a company with subsidiaries that own and operate Supramax, Panamax, and Kamsarmax dry bulk vessels, reported its unaudited consolidated interim operating and financial results for the three months (Q2-10) and six months (H1-10) period ended June 30, 2010, and declares an interim cash dividend of GB 7.3 pence (US 11.29 cents) per share. All the following figures are in United States Dollars, except for the dividend which is in British Pence. Globus had five vessels at the end of June 2010 versus seven vessels at the end of June 2009. -- Fleet utilization of 98.3% (H1-09: 98.7%). -- Fleet utilization of 100% (Q2-09: 98.9%).

Globus Maritime Limited (AIM: GLBS) (LSE: GLBS), a marine transportation company that owns and operates Handymax and Panamax dry bulk vessels, announced that a subsidiary of the company has entered into a new time charter agreement for the M/V Tiara Globe with Transgrain Shipping at a gross rate of $20,000 per day, for a minimum of 24 to a maximum of 26 months starting sometime in February 2010. The M/V Tiara Globe is a geared Panamax bulkcarrier built in 1998 with a carrying capacity of 72,929 dwt. George Karageorgiou, Chief Executive of Globus, commented: "We are pleased to announce this new employment agreement for our Panamax vessel, Tiara Globe, which enhances the stability and predictability of our revenues and cash flows.

Globus Maritime Limited has entered into an agreement with an unaffiliated third party in order to acquire a 1998- built 72,929 dwt geared Panamax bulkcarrier, for an agreed purchase price of $66.8m. M/V Tiara Globe and will fly the Marshall Islands flag. On completion of this acquisition, Globus’ fleet will comprise a total of eight modern dry bulkcarriers, consisting of six Handymaxes and two Panamaxes, with a weighted average age of approximately 10.7 years as at December 31, 2007 and with a total carrying capacity of 415,558 dwt. The six vessels in Globus’ current trading fleet are under medium and long term charters with reputable charterers.

Sanoyas Hishino Meisho Corp. has completed the Panamax bulk carrier, Orange Tiara, which was ordered by Handbell Shipping and delivered to Esmeralda Lines, at the Mizushima works and shipyard. The carrier is the 12th Sanoyas 75,000 DWT type Panamax bulker with the maximum beam permitted to pass through the Panama Canal. The cargo space is divided into seven cargo holds with topside tanks and hopper bottoms. Hydraulic, motor-driven, side-rolling hatch covers are used, and hatch openings are maximized to facilitate cargo handling. The main engine is a low-speed, super long-stroke, two cycle diesel engine, which is combined with a large diameter propeller to achieve efficient operation with low fuel consumption.
