FortisBC Joins SEA\LNG
Canadian liquefied natural gas (LNG) provider FortisBC has joined SEA\LNG, a multi-sector industry coalition accelerating the widespread adoption of LNG as a marine fuel.Peter Keller, Chairman, SEA\LNG, said: “We’re pleased to welcome FortisBC to the SEA\LNG coalition. FortisBC Starts Expansion of Tilbury LNG Facility
FortisBC – a subsidiary of Fortis Inc. has officially started construction of its $400 million Tilbury LNG Facility expansion project today. The company is adding 1.1 million gigajoules of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to storage and 34,000 gigajoules per day of liquefaction capacity. FortisBC marked the occasion with a ground-breaking ceremony attended by The Honourable Christy Clark, Premier of British Columbia; Delta Mayor Lois Jackson; as well as Scott Hamilton, MLA North Delta; and Vicki Huntington, MLA South Delta. FortisBC Energy Inc. operates the only two LNG facilities in Western Canada. The existing Tilbury LNG Facility opened in 1971 and has safely operated in Delta, B.C. for the last 43 years.
FortisBC Set to Expand its Tilbury LNG Facility
FortisBC Energy Inc. today selected Bechtel Canada Co. (Bechtel) as the contractor for its Tilbury LNG Facility Expansion Project in Delta, B.C. (Project). The selection of Bechtel took place after a competitive procurement process. Bechtel brings global experience in the development of LNG facilities to the Project. Project construction is expected to employ 150 skilled workers over two years and provide an estimated $4 million per year in taxes to various levels of government over time. To meet increased market demand for LNG, FortisBC is currently undertaking a $400 million expansion of its Tilbury LNG facility, in operation since 1971, which will add approximately 1.1 million gigajoules of LNG storage as well as approximately 34,000 gigajoules of liquefaction capacity per day.
