Devon Grennan joined Global Diving & Salvage in 1995 and has served many roles. When company founders Tim Beaver and John Graham stepped down from direct operational involvement, Grennan was named CEO. After more than 30 years as founders and owners of Global Diving & Salvage, Inc., Tim Beaver and John Graham continue to remain excited about the future of the company. This month, they announced the newest chapter in Global’s history; Devon Grennan, President for the past four years, will now also take on the position of Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Beaver and Mr. Graham will maintain ownership and continue to serve on the Board of Directors, but will step down from direct operational involvement.

Paul Hankins, Vice President for Salvage Operations at Donjon Marine Co., Inc., was elected President, succeeding Tim Beaver, Global Diving & Salvage, Inc., who served as President from 2011-2013. Jim Elliott, T&T Marine Salvage, Inc., was named Secretary/Treasurer. Paul Hankins has over 30 years’ experience in the marine industry after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1981 with a Bachelors of Science in Naval Architecture and from George Washington University in 1991 with a Master’s degree in Environmental Management.

The Bottom Line from the U.S. Salvage Leadership

In the choppy wake of regulatory changes, subtle changes in how, where and why salvors do business, high profile salvage assignments and still more lurking on the horizon, the American salvage community has a lot to say. This month, MarineNews brought together three industry heavyweights to find out what was on their minds. American Salvage Association to Consider Non-Tank VRP's

One issue on the conference agenda will be the new regulations for Non-Tank Vessel Response Plans (VRPs). On March 9, 2013, the OPA 90 Vessel Response Plan regulatory package outlining requirements for non-tank vessels trading in U.S. waters was approved by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), jumping the last hurdle before publication on or around June 9, 2013. The new regulations address the need to identify appropriate response resources, including diving, salvage, firefighting or lightering equipment and personnel, within VRPs. Questions on what this means for response to non-tank vessel casualties will be examined at the conference.

ASA to Bid on Removal of Costa Concordia

Seven members of the American Salvage Association (ASA) have been invited to submit competitive bids to remove the capsized cruise ship Costa Concordia, which ran aground off the Italian island of Giglio in late January. One member already involved with response. According to Lloyds List, "The company (vessel owner), owned by Miami-based Carnival, said in a statement that it would select a salvage firm based on tenders" by the end of March. One ASA member has already been contracted and is onsite in Italy to remove fuel oil and marine gasoline from the vessel.

Tim Beaver, Chief Executive Officer of Global Diving & Salvage, Inc., has been elected President of the American Salvage Association at its recent meeting in Arlington, VA, October 5, 2011. Beaver succeeds Mauricio Garrido, who served as President from 2009-2011. Paul Hankins, Donjon-SMIT, LLC, has been elected Vice President. Todd Schauer, Resolve Marine Group, has been named Secretary/Treasurer.“This new leadership team will serve to energize the ASA’s approach to the diverse fronts tackled by the ASA,” said Beaver.

Environmental Intelligence in Shipping Seminar

Founding Chairman of NAMEPA (North American Marine Environment Protection Association Clay Maitland unveiled plans to debut NAMEPA’s 2010 Seminar Series in San Francisco on March 9 at the Marines Memorial Club. The title of the seminar is “Environmental Intelligence in Shipping”. The seminar will kick off at 0800 with coffee and registration and end with a luncheon featuring an address by VADM Jody Breckenridge, USCG Commander Pacific Area. “The purpose of NAMEPA’s Seminar Series is to bring together stakeholders in the marine community to discuss concerns and actions that address marine environment protection” stated Mr. Maitland. Kevin Krick, Director of Environmental Affairs Global for APL Ltd. will lead the proceedings with an overview of industry best practices.

Global Diving & Salvage Acquires Offshore Divers

Seattle-based Global Diving & Salvage, Inc. has announced the acquisition of Offshore Divers of Anchorage, Alaska. As Global Offshore Divers, the new company will continue to be based out of Anchorage, utilizing the same personnel and management team that has served the offshore oil and gas fields in Cook Inlet and the North Slope for over a decade. Global Diving & Salvage CEO Tim Beaver said that keeping Offshore’s existing management and staff in place was a key consideration in the acquisition, coupled with future project opportunities. Global Diving & Salvage, Inc. is based in Seattle, Wa. with additional offices in the San Francisco Bay area (Global Inshore) and Anchorage (Global Offshore Divers).

Titan Salvage's Garrido Elected VP of American Salvage Association

Mauricio Garrido, Titan Salvage's director of business development, was recently elected vice president of The American Salvage Association (ASA). He joins John A. Witte, Jr., executive vice president of Donjon Marine Co., Inc. (Hillside, NJ) who was elected president, and Tim Beaver, president of Global Diving & Salvage, Inc. (Seattle, Wash.) who was elected secretary/treasurer. Garrido will continue to help the ASA meet its objectives which include bringing closure to pending U.S. maritime salvage regulations, facilitating the quality partnership agreement between ASA and the U.S. Coast Guard, and addressing responder immunity as well as the salvor's role in environmental protection and maritime security.
