Amels 242 on Sea Trials

The 74-meter long luxury superyacht built at Vlissingen shipyard has started shipbuilder's sea trials. Amels is now recognised as one of the most successful superyacht builders in Holland. "Even the chilly Dutch North Sea looks rather nice when graced by the gorgeous lines of the new 74-metre AMELS 242, out for sea trials near the AMELS yard in Vlissingen, the Netherlands," Damen said in a press release. With her long streamlined looks created by renowned British designer Tim Heywood, this hotly anticipated superyacht will be delivered on time in April to her Owner, represented by Moran Yacht & Ship. The first of three AMELS 242 yachts under construction at our yard, the AMELS 242 was the centre of attention when she emerged at the yard at the end of December last year.

Event Yacht Christened at Amels Yard

The first Amels 199, Event, has been christened at the Amels yard in Vlissingen, Holland. In a few weeks the 60-meter ship will set out on her maiden voyage to Norway to explore the fjords. Event’s delivery was part of a collaboration between Amels and Imperial. The christening was an emotional occasion, the owner sending his thanks to the Amels workforce who were there to enjoy the moment after many months of dedication and hard work. Yacht 'Step One' Sea Trials Satisfy Owner, Loyds Register

The brand new Amels 55-metre yacht, STEP ONE, has completed all tests at sea to the satisfaction of classification bureau Lloyds Register and the Owner’s Representative, US-based Moran Yachts & Ship. Amels project manager Roeland Berrevoets commented: “This design has now been tried and tested, which means that there were no surprises. STEP ONE’s exterior is designed by the renowned British designer Tim Heywood and her full custom interior by Laura Sessa. She is the first in line of the 55 metres series and measures 660 gt.

Alewijnse signs contract with AMELS

Alewijnse Marine Systems, the leading systems integrator based in Nijmegen in the Netherlands, has signed an agreement with top Dutch superyacht builder AMELS, to undertake the complete electrical outfitting on six new superyachts at AMELS’ yard in Vlissingen. Of the six yachts, one will be the first of the innovative new LIMITED EDITIONS 199 series designed by Tim Heywood with a distinctive scimitar bow, and the remaining five will be the latest in the phenomenally successful LIMITED EDITIONS 177 series.

Cakewalk, Largest Yacht Ever Built in the U.S.

On August 8, Derecktor Shipyards launched the 281-ft motor yacht Cakewalk, the largest yacht (by volume) ever built in the U.S. The six deck, 2,998 gross ton vessel floated off Derecktor’s new 4000 ton dry-dock into the waters of Bridgeport harbor, after several years and many thousands of skilled labor hours. Cakewalk was designed by Tim Heywood Designs with Naval Architecture by Azure Naval Architecture. Interior design was by Dalton Designs, Inc. Literally dozens of subcontractors from engineering firms to security specialists participated in the project.

Amels to Build Second Limited Editions Series Megayacht

Amels recently announced plans to begin construction of the second in its Limited Editions series, the 64.7-m Amels 212. This decision follows the success of the Amels 171, introduced at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2005. The Amels 212, like the Amels 171, is designed by Tim Heywood, will be shaped in a five-deck configuration. It is designed with a 65 m with high volume for its length and 1,500 gross tonnage. The 200 sq. m. sundeck features a hot tub, wet-feet bar, jet-stream pool, enclosed “skygym,” and alfresco dining for 12. A touch-and-go helipad is optional. On the bridge deck, abaft the wheelhouse, captain’s suite and pantry, Amels and Winch have placed two magnificent guest suites, adjoining a dramatic skylounge and alfresco dining area.
