Marchand in Int’l Maritime Hall of Fame
The International Maritime Hall of Fame announced recently the Georgia Ports Authority’s (GPA) Executive Director Doug J. Marchand will be honored as one of its newest members on May 13, 2009, at the United Nations in New York City. The International Maritime Hall of Fame was founded in 1993 and recognizes maritime visionaries, who, through excellence in their company, organization, or services, best exemplify the qualities of futuristic thinking that will guide the maritime industry in the 21st Century. “By creating unique opportunities and success at the Ports of Savannah and Brunswick, Doug has set the standard in the port industry and developed a model others attempt to duplicate,” said GPA’s Chairman of the Board Steve Green. Marchand has served as GPA’s Executive Director since 1995.
Tom Crowley Jr., Honored with AOTOS Award
Norman Mineta, U.S. Secretary of Transportation, presented one of two United Seamen's Service 2002 Admiral of the Ocean Sea (AOTOS) Awards to Tom Crowley Jr., Chairman, President and CEO of Crowley Maritime, at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers. An AOTOS award was also presented to Capt. Timothy A. Brown, President of the International Organization of Masters, Mates & Pilots, ILA, AFL-CIO. The AOTOS award, the maritime industry's most prestigious recognition, honors those within the shipping industry who have made significant contributions to American shipping and American Seafarers. The men were chosen from among a group, which was solicited by USS from more than 160 maritime management, labor, and government officials.

An AOTOS award was also presented to Capt. Timothy A. Brown, President of the International Organization of Masters, Mates & Pilots, ILA, AFL-CIO. contributions to American shipping and American Seafarers. The men were chosen from among a group, which was solicited by USS from more than 160 maritime management, labor, and government officials. "I've always thought of this award as honoring a lifetime of achievement in the maritime industry," said Crowley in his acceptance speech.
