U.S. cruise company American Cruise Lines said it is expanding its fleet with the addition of three new cruise ships now under construction Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Md. The first of the tree new vessels, American Constellation, will have capacity for 170 passengers and is scheduled to begin cruising in May of 2017. Construction is currently nine weeks ahead of schedule and the ship is now being outfitted with passenger details including marbled tile bathrooms and large sliding glass doors in each stateroom.

Guilford, CT-based American Cruise Lines will introduce its second riverboat to be home-ported in New Orleans. The two new riverboats are the first new ships built specially for the Mississippi River in 20 years. Construction of the 305-foot, 150-passenger American Eagle was recently completed at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Maryland. Just six weeks into its inaugural season, Pearl Seas Cruises has announced the successful start of its 210-passenger flagship, Pearl Mist, which currently operates in the Canadian Maritimes and Great Lakes before heading to the Caribbean for winter voyages. According to Pearl Seas, all ports have warmly welcomed and continue to welcome the Pearl Mist, adding that the newly offered cruises have received high praise from guests, with five-star service, spacious staterooms and a friendly crew being among the top-cited reasons for the highly rated experiences.

American Cruise Lines announced today that it launched the new paddlewheeler being built for the Mississippi River at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland. Immediately after being launched Sunday into the Wicomico River, tugboats nudged the new riverboat into Chesapeake Shipbuilding’s East Outfitting Basin where the upper decks and outfitting will be completed. “This is a significant milestone in the construction process and also for American Cruise Lines,” said Timothy Beebe, Vice President of American Cruise Lines.

The second newbuild will operate in the Pacific Northwest on the Columbia and Snake Rivers, where the line is operating the 120-passenger Queen of the West. Construction of both new riverboats is well underway at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Md. The new Mississippi riverboat will have a similar capacity to Queen of the Mississippi at 150 passengers, and will enter service in March of 2015. The new Columbia riverboat will follow later that same year. It will be slightly larger than American Cruise Lines’ other riverboats, with a planned capacity of 175 passengers.

Four new ACL Vessels to Enter Service between 2015 & 2017 and to Operate on U.S. American Cruise Lines announced plans to build four new riverboats for American river cruising, and noted that construction has already begun on the first two ships, with the first to begin cruising in in the spring of 2015. The first two new riverboats are designed to carry between 150 and 200 guests and will cruise the Mississippi River system and the Columbia and Snake Rivers. The full suite of four new ships will enter service between 2015 and 2017.

Original calliope from 1880-built paddlewheel steamboat to be placed aboard Queen of the Mississippi. American Cruise Lines, operator of the newest riverboats and small cruise ships in the United States, is pleased to announce it has just acquired a 132-year-old Nichol steam calliope to be placed aboard  its brand new 150-guest paddlewheeler, Queen of the Mississippi. The historic instrument, which originated from the Washington, a paddlewheel steamboat which operated on the Mississippi and Ohio River from 1880 to 1938…

American Cruise Lines announce the addition of a new itinerary for 2013 – Puget Sound and San Juan Islands . Offered aboard the 100-passenger American Spirit, roundtrip cruises from Seattle will showcase the most beautiful inland waterways on the West Coast. Puget Sound, which will include the San Juan Islands, will be the newest offering in American Cruise Lines’ Pacific Northwest cruise collection, which includes Alaska’s Inside Passage and the Columbia & Snake Rivers. Inaugural cruises are slated to begin on April 6, 2013.

American Cruise Lines announce the latest development in the construction of its brand new authentic 150-passenger paddlewheeler, the Queen of the Mississippi, as it nears completion at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Maryland. Last week, the massive 23-ton, 28 foot-wide paddlewheel built specially for the new riverboat was lifted and installed. “This marks an important step in the creation of this authentic riverboat,” said Timothy Beebe, Vice President of American Cruise Lines.
