Port of Tacoma Year-End Update

On Dec. 31, Timothy J. Five years ago, I promised that the Port of Tacoma would take care of our customers, build a foundation for future growth, and be a good neighbor. Since then, I have had the privilege of working alongside an extraordinarily talented team, including Port employees, the Tacoma labor force, and our customers, business partners, vendors, and community members. The last five years have been intensely challenging, with record growth and record contraction of international trade. Through it all, I'm proud of the achievements that we have made on that initial promise. Take Care of Our Customers. Over the last five years, we have expanded all of our container terminals, intermodal rail system, automobile facilities and our real estate portfolio.

Port of Tacoma Picks New Director

The Port of Tacoma Commission today selected Timothy J. Farrell as the Port's Executive Director, effective January 1, 2005. Farrell has served as the Port of Tacoma's Deputy Executive Director since 2000 and as Acting Executive Director since July 1, 2004. Andrea Riniker, who has served as the Port's Executive Director since 1997, will continue on in a transitional role until January 1, 2005. She will work with the Port Commission, and travel with Farrell and Port of Tacoma Commission President Clare Petrich to meet with customers to assure a smooth changeover to Farrell's leadership. Before joining the Port of Tacoma four years ago, Farrell, 38, was Deputy Port Director of Business & Administration for Massport, Boston.

Port of Tacoma Selects Wolfe as Deputy Executive Director

The Port of Tacoma has selected John Wolfe as Deputy Executive Director. Wolfe, is currently Executive Director at the Port of Olympia. He is a native of Puyallup, Washington and a graduate of Tacoma's Pacific Lutheran University (B.A. in Business Administration, 1987). Port of Tacoma Executive Director Timothy J. Farrell says Wolfe brings a collaborative leadership style to Tacoma. "We have known John for many years and respect his ability to build teams and lead an organization," he said. "As our Port grows, it is important to bring people with John's capabilities into our organization. Before being named Port of Olympia Executive Director in December 2003, Wolfe served as Olympia's Director of Operations and Marine Terminal General Manager.

Senator Unveils Port Security Demonstration
