Nor-Shipping 2011 was more popular than ever with a record 16,235 visitors coming to the exhibition venue, an increase of 4 percent from the previous event two years earlier and the largest turnout since Nor-Shipping began in 1965. A total of 17,298 exhibitor delegates from 54 countries participated in the four-day event, which closed on May 27. In addition to the 16,235 visitors, this resulted in a total turnout of 33,533 delegates to the exhibition, which also featured 22 national pavilions and 5 “theme parks”.

Nor-Shipping has released names of the winners of the 2011 Clean Ship and Next Generation Ship Awards. The winners were announced today at the Nor-Shipping Opening Conference on May 24, 2011. Nor-Shipping announces the call for entries for the Nor-Shipping Awards 2011, which are the Clean Ship Award and the Next Generation Ship Award. The deadline for submissions is April 1, 2011. When NorShipping 2009 closed on June 12, the organized had claimed a record numbers of visitors; a total of 15,999, along with a total of 17,780 exhibitor representatives (1105 exhibitors from 52 countries). Given the current status of the world economy and the prospects for a protracted recovery, it is a testament to the brand built in Oslo that NorShipping could command an increase in traffic of 15% versus 2007. “We believed that the market downturn would lead the maritime industry to think again how it reaches out to the market,” said Tollef Schiander, Director for NorShipping. “Companies concentrate their resources on those activities and marketplaces that get results. Nor-Shipping organizers, in cooperation with Den Norske Veritas (DNV), announced the nominees for the first Clean Shipping Awards. Winners will be announced at Nor-Shipping 2009’s Opening Conference, scheduled for June 9. Working in cooperation with DNV, Nor-Shipping has established the Clean Shipping Awards, scheduled to be introduced at Nor-Shipping 2009’s Opening Conference. Selected by an independent jury, the Clean Shipping Awards cover three categories: Clean Sea, Clean Air, and Clean Innovation. In total, 60 companies were considered for the awards. The Clean Sea Award will be awarded to one company in recognition of superior efforts to limit discharges from ship to sea. The nominees are: Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.

Nor-Shipping recorded its most successful year ever, in terms of exhibitors, visitors and events. "As a source of strategic inspiration and professional opinion, Nor-Shipping this year was truly seen by the market as an opportunity to join the leaders," said Tollef Schiander, director for Nor-Shipping on behalf of its organiser Norway Trade Fairs. Nor-Shipping had 13,745 professional visitors during the 4-day event. 828 exhibitors from 42 countries brought 6,685 representatives to Nor-Shipping 2007, adding the total number of official delegates to well over 20,000. Given the wide variety of social and professional arrangements happening in parallel throughout the Oslo region, the leading maritime event week's numbers rise to probably more than 25,000.
