NOIA, Virginia Support Offshore Development

The National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) President Tom Fry issued the following statement on Feb. “The National Ocean Industries Association applauds yesterday’s vote in the Virginia State Senate supporting energy development off the State’s Coast. The vote, backed by Governor Bob McDonnell (R-VA), demonstrates a strong bipartisan commitment by the Commonwealth to allow OCS exploration off its coast and actively work with Congress and the Administration to move forward with OCS Lease Sale 220. “Over the past five years, political leaders in Virginia’s State House, the Governor’s mansion and among the delegation in Congress have repeatedly expressed a desire to see the offshore energy resources of their state opened to development.

NOIA Hopeful Cape Wind Project Proceeds

"When it comes to the fate of the complex and long-planned Cape Wind project in Nantucket Sound, the National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) agrees that after nearly a decade of multiple reviews and seemingly endless legal challenges, it is indeed time for a final permitting decision on the project. NOIA Lauds Court Decision Oil & Gas Lease Plan

On July 28, the DC Circuit Court of Appeals clarified its April 17 decision regarding the 5-Year Oil and Gas Lease Plan. The court has established that the Minerals Management Service must properly consider the relative environmental sensitivity and marine productivity of different areas of the OCS under Section 18(a)(2)(G), and strike a proper balance incorporating environmental and coastal zone factors under Section 18 (a)(3) for Alaska only, specifically leasing in the Chukchi, Beaufort and Bering Seas. In effect, the Court has upheld the 5-Year Oil and Gas Leasing Plan for areas outside Alaska, which provides welcomed certainty for operations and lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico.

Global Industries Wins Safety Award

Global Industries was awarded the 2009 National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) Safety-in-Seas Award on April 16, recognizing their contribution to the safety of life offshore for energy workers. Global Industries was selected by a panel of judges from the U.S. Coast Guard, the Minerals Management Service and the National Academy of Science's Marine Board. NOIA President Tom Fry said, "Global Industries demonstrated that safety is priority number one, whether in their Plug & Abandonment (P&A) work on decommissioned wellheads or on hurricane recovery projects. Their safety record is an exemplary achievement, successfully integrating safety and training together across a large organization.
