Colonna's Shipyard said Wednesday that its President & CEO, Tom Godfrey, would retire effective December 31, 2023. Randall Crutchfield has been named to replace Godfrey as the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Crutchfield is currently Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer (COO). Colonna’s Promotes Three Execs

Tom Godfrey, President & CEO of Colonna’s Shipyard, Incorporated (CSI), today announced the promotions of three executives from the company’s leadership team to new positions. Randall Crutchfield has been promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Jordan Webb, becomes the Executive Vice President of Shipyard Operations. Chris Hartwig has been promoted to Senior Director of Steel America. All three appointments are effective immediately. “These positions will play a significant role in the growth of our company,” according to Godfrey.

Shipyards Leading the Way on Safety in OSHA Partnership

The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA) has announced a new partnership with the National Shipbuilding Research Program and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), a part of the Department of Labor (DOL), focused on continuing employee safety practices in U.S. shipyards. The Alliance Program will develop training and best practices to promote safety and health in the shipbuilding and repair industry including preventing worker exposure to electrical, ergonomic, struck-by and slip, trip and fall hazards.

Signal International, Inc. announces the appointment of Tom Godfrey to the position of Domestic Sales and Marketing at the Signal Ship Repair (SSR) facility in Mobile, AL.   Godfrey complements the sales staff with his 18 years of ship repair experience. Godfrey has a solid background in the Maritime industry including Planning and Project Management as well as sales. In recent years, Godfrey’s sales experience has focused on foreign and domestic blue water market. He is a 1986 graduate of the State University of New York Maritime College.

Colonna’s Shipyard, 1000c Mobile Boat Hoist

Marine Travelift Inc. delivered the world’s largest mobile boat hoist to Colonna’s Shipyard in December 2009. The new 1000C, capable of lifting 1,000 tons (2,200,000 pounds), is changing the way this Norfolk, Virginia-based shipyard approaches its business. Colonna’s Shipyard is located on the deep-water, mid-Atlantic Port of Norfolk, it features a 17,200-ton floating drydock, a 2,800-ton floating drydock and two marine railways. Such railways and drydocks have been the standard technology for handling large vessels that need repair, overhaul or conversion work out of the water.

FirstWave/Newpark Adds To Senior Management Staff Joining FirstWave/Newpark is Frank R. Pierce as corporate vice president and CFO, along with Tom Godfrey in the newly created position of vice president, ship repair. Pierce joins FirstWave with more than 20 years experience, most recently at GulfMark Offshore, a publicly held offshore vessel company. Godfrey, who has held many senior level positions in the industry, comes to FirstWave from Colonna's Shipyard where he was president & CEO.

Solar Powered Ferry Sets Sail

For centuries, sailing has been about how to catch the wind. Now it is becoming a question of how to catch the sun. Australian inventor Robert Dane has designed and built the world's first solar-powered ferry, the Solar Sailor, which is driven by both solar and wind power and took top prize in this year's Australian Design Awards. "Solar energy and boats are at the same stage as where the Wright Brothers were when they were first developing the plane," says Tom Godfrey from the Australian Design Awards. The Solar Sailor offers an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional diesel-powered craft and has been operating commercially on Sydney Harbor for the last six months.
