Kitchen Joins Stewart Enterprises, Inc. Board
William E. Rowe, Chairman and CEO of Stewart Enterprises, Inc. announced the election of Thomas M. Kitchen to the Company's Board of Directors. Mr. Kitchen is an investment management consultant with Equitas Capital Advisors, LLC in New Orleans. During a 25-year career with Avondale Industries, Inc., the nation's fifth largest shipbuilder, he served as president, chief financial officer and board member. He currently serves on the board of Conrad Industries, a marine fabricator headquartered in Morgan City, La. Mr. Rowe said, "We are very fortunate to have Tom Kitchen serving on our board. Mr. Kitchen holds both an undergraduate degree and master's degree in Business Administration from the University of New Orleans, which recognized him as its 1997 Alumnus of the Year.
Litton Delivers Sealift Ship Ahead of Schedule

The seventh and final Strategic Sealift ship in the BOB HOPE Class will be christened BENAVIDEZ in ceremonies at the Northrop Grumman Corporation Avondale shipyard Saturday, July 21, 2001, beginning at 10 a.m. The new ship will be named in honor of Medal of Honor recipient Army Master Sgt. Roy P. Benavidez, of Lindenau, Tex. Benavidez distinguished himself in a series of daring and extremely valorous actions while in the Republic of Vietnam assigned to Detachment B56, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), 1st Special Forces, U.S. Army. Northrop Grumman Gets Advance Money Fo LPD 21, LPD 22
Northrop Grumman Corporation announced that the Avondale Alliance, led by Northrop Grumman Avondale, has been awarded $113.2 million for advance procurement of long lead materials for ships five and six in the SAN ANTONIO Class LPD 17 Program. "This advance procurement award demonstrates the importance of the LPD 17 Program and the Navy's commitment to it," said Tom Kitchen, president of Northrop Grumman Avondale. Long lead materials consist of items such as the main engines, generators, controllable pitch propellers, and reduction gears. Advance procurement is necessary for these critical long lead items in order to exercise vendor option rates.
Sealift Ship Delivered Ahead of Schedule
USNS PILILAAU (T-AKR 304), the fifth of seven BOB HOPE Class Strategic Sealift ships being built by Northrop Grumman Corporation's Ship Systems sector, departed Avondale Aug. 24, 2001, after being delivered to the U.S. Navy ahead of schedule one month earlier. PILILAAU earned an outstanding Acceptance Trial evaluation from the Navy and the Office of the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair, New Orleans, earlier this summer. "We are very pleased with the performance of PILILAAU, and with the ahead-of-schedule delivery," said Tom Kitchen, president of Ship Systems' Avondale operations. "The trials were so successful because our many skilled craftsmen produced the most complete ship yet.
Bossier Retires, Kitchen Takes Avondale Helm
Litton Industries announced that Thomas M. "Tom" Kitchen, a member of the Litton Avondale Industries management team, has been named president of Avondale to succeed Albert Bossier, age 67, who is retiring Nov. 1, 1999, after 42 years of service to Avondale. "Tom Kitchen has played an integral role in the overall success of Avondale since joining the company in 1977," said Jerry St. Pe, Litton executive vice president and COO of Litton Ship Systems (LSS). Kitchen, age 51, joined Avondale in 1977 as an assistant controller. He has advanced through a series of assignments, culminating in his current duties as vice president and CFO. A New Orleans native, he holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting and master of business administration degree from the University of New Orleans.
