WWII Museum’s PT-305 Sails Again
Commercial workboat philanthropy on display on PT-305: WWII Museum’s PT-305 sails again after a far reaching donor-funded restoration. In March, the National WWII Museum in New Orleans launched its reconstructed PT-305, built locally by Higgins Industries in 1943. The museum acquired the boat known as the USS Sudden Jerk in 2007, restoration began in 2009, and it now sails Lake Pontchartrain as an interactive exhibit. PT-305, with a fifteen-man crew, belonged to a 12-ship squadron operating in the Mediterranean from 1944 until the war ended in 1945.
SAIC Gets USN $21-million Contract
Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) to provide operational & environmental support to United States Fleet Forces Command (USFF). The contract with the United States Navy is to provide operational and environmental support for fleet training range complexes for the United States Fleet Forces Command (USFF) and Commander, United States Pacific Fleet. The single-award firm fixed-price contract has a one-year period of performance, four one-year options, and a total contract value of approximately $21 million, if all options are exercised. Work will be performed primarily in Norfolk, Va., Virginia Beach, Va., Kauai, HI, Whidbey Island, Wash., San Diego, Calif., Fallon, Nev., El Centro, Calif, and Guam.

Duramax Marine, a world leader in water-lubricated rubber bearings, recently broke ground on a new facility that will streamline the company's current manufacturing operations. The facility, with approximately 65,000 sq. ft. of factory and office space will consolidate production and administration into one centralized location in Troy Township, Ohio, approximately 40 miles south east of Cleveland. The expected grand opening will be the first quarter of 2001. Watson Coatings Inc. said that Gordon Watson, founder and CEO, retired on Nov. 2, 2000.
