Heerema Marine Contractors said its semi-submersible crane vessel Hermod will retire at the end of this year after nearly 40 years of operational performance. Designed and constructed in the 1970s, Hermod and sister vessel Balder were the first semi-submersible crane vessels of their kind in the offshore construction industry. The semi-submersible concept was developed with the aim to extend the operability in the harsh North Sea environment and furthermore to deliver superior lifting capacity.

Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited, a Chevron subsidiary in Angola, has extended the current contract for the ultra deepwater semi-submersible Mærsk Deliverer expiring in June 2015 by two years. Mærsk Deliverer has since 2012 been working for Chevron and its partners on the Tombua Landana field offshore Angola. With the contract extension the rig will be on contract until June 2017. The estimated revenue potential from the two-year contract extension is USD 387m plus compensation for cost escalations over the contract period. “We are very pleased to be able to extend our relationship with Chevron on this project, and look forward to a continued successful drilling operation.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co.won an order worth $1.27b to build an oil drilling and production platform for an Angolan unit of energy giant Chevron Corp. The platform, to be built at Okpo Bay of Geoje Island, about 406 km south of Seoul, will be installed in the Tombua-Landana offshore oil field off the coast of Angola, southwestern Africa, Antara reported. MarketWatch has reported that Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. has received an order from a unit of Chevron Corp. (CVX) to build a drilling and production platform. The contract is the world's largest offshore plant order in terms of value and the facility's size, said Daewoo Shipbuilding in a statement. The plant will be delivered to Cabinda Gulf Oil Co. by the end of May 2009 and will be located at Angola's offshore oil field, Tombua-Landana, to produce 130,000 barrels of crude oil a day. The contract was awarded on a turnkey basis, meaning Daewoo will not only build, but also operate the platform. With the new order, Daewoo Shipbuilding's offshore facility orders secured this year have reached $3.72b, exceeding its 2006 target of $3b, it said.
