Wärtsilä’s Acquisition of Transas is Completed

The technology group Wärtsilä announces that its acquisition of Transas, a global company headquartered in the U.K., has now been finalized. Control of the company will be transferred to Wärtsilä effective from 4 May, 2018. The acquisition, which was announced in March 2018, has a transaction value of MEUR 210 (enterprise value). Transas is a global market leader in marine navigation solutions that include complete bridge systems, digital products and electronic charts. It is also a leader in professional training and simulation services, as well as ship traffic control systems. In acquiring Transas, Wärtsilä takes a big step forward in achieving its mission of enabling sustainable societies with smart technology.

COMPIT to Showcase Smarter Ships, Systems & Solutions

The 14th International Conference on Computer and IT Applications in the Maritime Industries (COMPIT) will take place from 11th to 13th May 2015 in Ulrichshusen, Germany. First held in the year 2000, COMPIT has established itself as a key conference in information technology (IT) for the maritime industries, bringing together software developers and users. Most participants come from industry, reflecting the practical relevance of the event. DNV GL will be the main sponsor of the event which covers the lifecycle of ships, offshore structures and equipment, from design to operation. E-navigation (or sea traffic management) could be considered as the maritime equivalent of air traffic control systems.

Sparton to Acquire Aydin Displays

Sparton Corporation subsidiary, Sparton Aydin, has entered into a definitive purchase agreement to acquire certain assets and liabilities of Aydin Displays, Inc., an $18 million revenue business, in an all-cash transaction. The acquistion is expected to provide $18-million in annual revenue, adding engineered product content of enhanced industrial quality flat panel display and touch-screen solutions. Globe iFusion: Inmarsat 2010 “Maritime Product of the Year”

Globe Wireless announced that Inmarsat has named Globe iFusion the 2010 Maritime Solution of the Year. Globe Wireless became a FleetBroadband Distribution Partner in January 2010. In September 2010 Globe iFusion was released, making Globe Wireless the only Distribution Partner that is also a type approved FleetBroadband equipment manufacturer. Northrup Contract for Interrogator Sets

Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC) has been awarded a $16m contract from the U.S. Navy for production of five additional AN/UPX-24(V) interrogator sets for the U.S. Navy and the Australian Navy. The AN/UPX-24(V) is a shipboard identification-friend-or-foe (IFF) processor system that is used to identify aircraft or ships equipped with an IFF transponder. The system provides target data to the ship's command, control, communications, computer and intelligence (C4I) system and generates interrogation commands in response to requests for priority target identification. The AN/UPX-24(V) accepts interrogation and control commands and provides target reports to a shipboard weapon system, such as Aegis or the Naval Tactical Data System.

Saab Transponder Tech Reports Strong Market for AIS

Saab TransponderTech, a supplier of automatic identification systems (AISs) reports continued brisk sales of its AIS products, including shipboard transponders and base stations. Saab achieved two major milestones this year when it shipped its 10,000 shipboard AIS transponder and also installed the 1,000 shoreside AIS base station, according to Gunnar Mangs, vice president sales and marketing for Saab TransponderTech. Saab TransponderTech was one of the original pioneers in AIS technology and is currently offering its fourth-generation AIS products. The Saab R4, introduced in 2003, is the leading marine AIS transponder on the market. The product is type-approved to meet the IMO carriage requirements for AIS, and is fully licensed under the Swedish patent for AIS technology.
