Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD), a portfolio company of Arcline Investment Management, is launching a 45,000-square-foot training and service center campus in Chesapeake, Va. The defense contractor will move its existing service center from Norfolk, Va., to the Chesapeake campus to add a state-of-the-art training facility and further expand advanced service support for its customers. The move represents a $13 million investment in the community.“We are excited to have Fairbanks Morse Defense as the newest member of our business community,” said Rick West, Mayor of Chesapeake.

Never easy, but always a critically important task. It is critically important that we assess the ability of our mariners to perform the skills required to safely and efficiently do their jobs. It happens to also be very difficult to do so objectively and at the level of detail necessary to ensure safe operations and continuous improvement. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has released a training programme, produced by Videotel, a KVH company, to encourage safe navigation in the Singapore Strait. ECDIS Ltd. has recently utilized new simulation training technology for COLREGs teaching aids, creating a brighter way to train and assess students from their 150 major shipping company clients in the classroom. Using the new technology via projectors, the assessors, instructors and students have the dynamic ability to continuously change the COLREGs situation, in a variety of meteorological conditions, from any aspect of any vessel i.e. port or starboard, birds eye, helm positions and free orbital. Long gone are the days of using ROR flip cards and magnetic smartie boards.

Aalesund University College has become one of the first Kongsberg Maritime simulator users to migrate to the new simulator technology platform, K-Sim Navigation. In a contract signed on January 6, 2015 following an open tender by the college, Kongsberg Maritime will deliver a new K-Sim Navigation aft and forward bridge configuration, which is DNV Class B compliant with an integrated DP2 simulator. The Simsea AS maritime training center in Haugesund, Norway, has chosen Kongsberg Maritime to support the extension of its offshore simulation facilities with new simulators and significant upgrades to existing simulators. As San Jacinto College prepares to break ground to build the region's newest maritime training facility, some of the industry's most sought after training technology has arrived and is awaiting its new home. The college recently received three interactive, full-mission, ship bridge simulators, thanks to a collaborative agreement with the Houston Pilots. They will be moved to the College's 45,000-square-foot Maritime Technology and Training Center once it opens, projected for mid 2015.

Two new Videotel on Demand (VOD) on board training units presented to the IMO on behalf of Videotel Marine International by Stephen Bond, Deputy Chairman and Nigel Cleave, Chief Executive Officer. PEM Offshore Limited signed a multi-million dollar contract with Kongsberg Maritime for the supply of a full suite of Offshore Anchor Handling, Dynamic Positioning, Power Management and Crane Simulation systems. By Daryl C. NORFOLK (NNS) -- The Naval Construction Force will soon have a new, 21st century convoy training simulator to augment current training for Seabees. Lockheed Martin was recently awarded a contract that includes a state-of-the-art $5 million combat convoy simulator (CCS) expected to be delivered to Construction Battalion Center (CBC), Gulfport, Miss., in September 2008. The trainer is part of a $52.5 million contract providing convoy simulators to the Marine Corps. The system consists of six vehicle simulators, four high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles and two medium tactical vehicle replacements, that will be programmed with a variety of training scenarios and scenery projected onto a 360-degree screen.

Lloyd’s Register has launched an interactive, CD-ROM distance learning training program for shipboard staff, produced in co-operation with leading training technology organisation Videotel Interactive. The new program has been designed and produced as an integral component of Lloyd’s Register’s Hull Planned Maintenance Scheme (HPMS), one of several maintenance management services the Lloyd’s Register Group offers to enable shipboard staff to take a more active role in the classification process. HPMS is an alternative hull survey regime for selected ship types based on the alignment and integration of classification requirements with an operator’s existing hull inspection and maintenance programme.
