Mantel Joins Theyr Ltd,

Theyr Ltd, a London based met-ocean data provider to the maritime sectors are pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Mantel as a Non-Executive Director.In his role he will be defining and implementing the commercial shipping strategy offering Theyr’s High Fidelity Met Ocean Data and Optimization Services that will drive the digital transformation in shipping.Mantel previously helped pioneer the transformation from paper to electronic chart navigation as a Director and Shareholder of Transas Marine Ltd.

Furuno USA Hires Toma

Furuno USA has hired a new commercial business development manager. Based in Houston, Texas, Mr. George Toma will play a key role in establishing and developing business relationships with commercial ship owners, operators, and builders around the country to promote the Furuno product line.Toma comes to Furuno with forty years of experience in the maritime industry. He has served on the Board of Directors for RTCM (Radio Technical Commission for Maritimes), and received the Outstanding Professional Achievement Award in 2013 from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Association.

SHIPPINGInsight announced the agenda and identified keynote speakers for the fifth Fleet Optimization Conference & Exhibition. The annual event will take place October 18-19, 2016, at the Stamford Marriott Hotel and Spa in Stamford, Conn. Capt. Michael Wilson, president & COO of Laurin Maritime (America), will serve as conference chairman. John D. (Jack) Noonan, COO of Chembulk Tankers, and Capt. Norbert Aschmann, CEO of Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, will deliver the keynote addresses on Days One and Two.

Transas Adds Ukrainian Chart Folios to its TX-97 Collection

Transas TX-97 non-official chart collection now includes Ukrainian chart folios. The agreement was signed between Transas Marine Ltd and the State Hydrographic Service of Ukraine in May 2012 allowing Transas to use official ENC’s and Inland ENC’s to create TX-97 folios. New charts will be available for the users of Transas ECDIS and ECS. The uniqueness of this project is that it is the first time when Inland ENC’s were used to produce TX-97 folios. State Hydrographic Service of Ukraine provided 158 Inland ENC’s and 114 ENC’s covering territorial waters of Ukraine in Black Sea and Sea of Azov.

Transas to Supply VTMIS For Bulgarian Gov’t

Transas Marine Ltd. UK has been announced as the winner of the international tender for a large-scale VTMIS (Vessel Traffic Management and Information System), including GMDSS and UAIS subsystems sought by the Bulgarian government. On November 30, a multi-million contract was signed in Sofia between Transas Marine and the Ministry of Finance of Bulgaria, which was endorsed for financing by the European Community. The tender has been held under the framework of the Phare programme aimed at the financial support of countries of Central and East Europe in their preparations for joining the European Union. Transas Reports Another Successful Year

According to Transas, the year 2002 was marked by substantial growth in sales all over the world and their updated product line. During the year, Transas completed development of the new-generation 3000 line of navigational products. Now, this product line comprises Navi-Sailor 3000, the enhanced version of the electronic chart system with UAIS transponder interface; Navi-Radar 3000, PC-based radar display system; Navi-Conning 3000; and Navi-Fisher 3000, the ectronic chart system specifically adapted for fishery vessels. The line also includes Navi-Bridge 3000, a smart mini-IBS (Integrated Bridge System) designed to make ship control easier and more efficient.
