UK, VTS Simulation from Transas

Transas Marine (UK) Ltd and Blackpool and the Fylde College’s Fleetwood Nautical Campus have successfully added a VTS simulation suite to its Transas Navi-Trainer Professional Simulation centre. The two Navi-Monitor workstations are able to monitor the developing traffic situation in any simulated exercise run on the main navigational bridges on site; a capability that is required for Fleetwood to deliver VTS Operator training to the IALA V103 standard. A projected visualisation channel gives the view from the control tower and completes the ‘full mission’ effect that this leading training establishment has always strived for. This installation is a landmark for Transas as it is the first of its kind in the UK…

Transas to Provide Search and Rescue Simulator for RNLI

Transas Marine UK has been awarded a major contract to supply a Full Mission SAR (Search And Rescue) Simulator to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). The RNLI sees its future simulator complex as the worldwide “Centre of Excellence for Lifeboat Training and Rescue Operations” capable of providing such enhanced training programs as Accelerated Learning, Refresher Courses, Crisis Management and Search and Rescue Operations. The Transas simulator, which will be installed in the RNLI’s new training headquarters in Poole, UK, will incorporate new lifeboat models such as the Severn Class, FSB and some others designed by Transas with extreme precision to realistically simulate the customer’s actual vessels.

Turkish Chamber of Shipping Orders Transas Simulator

The Turkish Chamber of Shipping has ordered a combined full mission bridge and GMDSS simulator system from Transas Marine (UK) Ltd. to be supplied to the Training Center of TUDEV Maritime Academy, located at Tuzla, near Istanbul. The project is supported financially by the Turkish Ship Owners' Association. The system will comprise a full mission ship handling Transas simulator of the Navi-Trainer Professional 4000 type, including one main bridge with a full set of real ship controls and nine visualization channels, and a second CBT-bridge with reduced ship controls. Both bridges will be provided with ECDIS, ARPA/Radar, Conning and GMDSS.

ABP Awards Transas VTS Contract

Transas Marine (UK) Ltd. has recently gained a contract to supply a Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) system for Associated British Port’s (ABP) South Wales Ports - Cardiff, Barry, Newport, Swansea and Port Talbot. The contract was awarded by ABP South Wales after extensive market assessment and a comprehensive tendering procedure. The Transas VTS system meets ABP’s primary requirements and responsibilities as the Statutory Harbour Authority for its ports, which are the management of shipping, the safety of navigation for all harbour users and the protection of the marine environment. The new system will support ABP by providing the duty Marine Officer with navigational information such as vessel position, vessel movements, timings and speed.

Transas Marine to Supply VTMS to the Port of Mombasa

On June 29, Transas Marine UK and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) signed a contract for the supply, installation and commissioning of a VTMS system for the Port of Mombasa in Kenya. The VTMS system will be installed and officially handed to KPA in February 2008. The main operator control room will be located inside the Port of Mombasa’s brand new 70m high Port Control Tower, and additional equipment will be installed at Ras Serani Station, Likoni Sector Light, and KPA Headquarters. At the time of contract signing, the preliminary scope of supply includes two high performance coastal surveillance radars, CCTV, Automatic Identification System (AIS) Base Stations, VHF & HF Base Stations, and other ancillary equipment.

First Transas ARPA Simulator Launched in Turkey

At the beginning of November 2002, Transas Marine (UK) installed the first Transas ARPA simulator system in Turkey, at the School of Maritime Business and Management (SMBM) in IZMIR. The system has greatly enhanced the capabilities of the College for ARPA simulator training. The new ARPA/radar simulator at the SMBM comprises an Instructor station with extensive model and exercise area libraries, and three Trainee stations, each with an ARPA display and combined Conning, ECDIS and Visual stations. The Transas ARPA/radar PC-based simulator is an STCW’95 compliant tool for practicing radar-based navigation in all weather and visibility conditions, in open sea, pilotage waterways and areas with high traffic density.
