Twin Disc Inks Deal to Acquire Katsa for $23 Million

Twin Disc Slashing Costs under Market Pressure

Power transmission equipment company Twin Disc, Inc., announced additional restructuring and cost reduction activities aiming to further reduce expenses, as a result of challenging global market conditions within the company's oil and gas, global pleasure craft and Asian commercial marine markets. Twin Disc said it expects $4.3 million of annual savings from these actions once fully implemented, plus a further $6 million of annual savings announced in the fiscal 2015 fourth quarter. The company’s current plan includes reducing base salaries for corporate officers, as well as base salaries and wages of salaried and hourly employees at the company's headquarters and domestic manufacturing facilities.

TE SUBCOM Closer to Delivering Undersea System

Company Demonstrates 100Gb/s-Based Transmission at 10Tb/s per Fiber Pair with First Generation Coherent Transmission Equipment. TE SubCom, a TE Connectivity Ltd. BCS Marine for the Queen of Coquitlam

Pick Your Power

The inherent diversity of the multitude of vessels plying rivers, lakes, harbors and oceans around the world extends past size and shape and type of service - at the heart of each vessel is a propulsion system. Although propulsion systems may often be considered unique, a variety of typical solutions for most types of vessels already exist. In some cases, it may be preferable to simply specify the duplication of an existing propulsion system, allowing a degree of harmonization in the number of required spares, trained mechanics, and maintenance. It would seem, however, that ship owners and operators are placing an increased premium on designs and solutions both unique and innovative, in order to reduce costs and maximize performance.

FastShip Selects Gear Corporation As Supplier

FastShip, Inc. has reached an agreement with Philadelphia Gear Corporation to supply sophisticated transmission equipment for the company's high-speed trans-Atlantic fleet. The $35 million order is the largest in Philadelphia Gear's 100-year history, bringing more than 100 direct and indirect jobs to the region. Per the agreement, Philadelphia Gear will supply 20 gearboxes - five in each of FastShip's initial four vessels - plus one spare gearbox and additional parts, as well as a 10-year service maintenance package. The gears will help generate power for the vessels equivalent to two and a half times that of a jumbo jet. Philadelphia Gear will also participate in vendor financing of FastShip, which intends to complete its total financing package by year-end 1999.

FastShip Inc. has reached an agreement with Philadephia Gear Corp. to supply sophisticated transmission equipment for the company's revolutionary high-speed trans-Atlantic fleet. The $35 million order is the largest in Philadelphia Gear's 100-year history. Under the agreement, the company will supply 20 gearboxes - five in each of FastShip's initial four vessels - plus one spare gearbox and additional parts, as well as a 10-year service and maintenance package. The gears will help generate power for the vessels equivalent to 2.5 times that of a jumbo jet. The contract means 100 jobs for Philadelphia Gear and its vendors, including securing or adding 70 full-time jobs over the next two years.
