Exxon, Enbridge Sued by Competitor

Chevron and Angelicoussis Group Exploring Maritime Ammonia Transport

Chevron and the Angelicoussis Group have come together to explore how tankers can be used to transport ammonia, a potential lower carbon marine fuel.Under a newly announced Joint Study Agreement (JSA), Chevron, through its subsidiary Chevron Shipping Company, and the Angelicoussis Group, through its Energy Transition division, Green Ships, will initially evaluate the ammonia transportation market, existing infrastructure, the safety aspects of ammonia, potential next generation vessel requirements and a preliminary system to transport ammonia between the U.S. Gulf Coast and Europe.

Robert Allan Ltd Designs ATB Convoys for Aliança Navegação e Logística

Nakilat Posts Record Net Profit of $270M

Nakilat Posts 10.5% Surge in 9 Month's Net Profit

Nakilat Reports 9% Profit Jump in Q1

Drewry: Ocean Freight Shipping Rates Fall in Q4

Ocean freight rates for cargoes moving under contracts on major East-West routes decreased by 7% in the fourth quarter, according to the results of Drewry’s Benchmarking Club Contract Index.The cost reduction, based on contract freight rate data provided confidentially by Asian, American and European retailers and manufacturers to the Benchmarking Club, shows that shippers who negotiate well with carriers can continue to reduce their multi-million freight spend on most East-West routes, despite the increases in bunker prices during the past year. Nakilat Profit Jumps by 8.5%

Russia Sends LNG Through Northern Sea Route

Russia was now pitching itself as an important transporter of European gas to Asia, reports  Sputnik quoting Danila Bochkarev, a senior fellow at the EastWest Institute in Brussels. The Russian supertanker Christophe de Margerie is en route to South Korea, sailing the Northern Sea Route with a load of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Norway. The shipment is a major step for Russia’s Sovcomflot to enter the global gas transportation market said the report. The Northern Sea Route cuts the travel time from Europe to Asia by a hefty 40 percent and the Christophe de Margerie will cover this distance in just 15 days. Sovcomflot has 128 tankers and 13 LNG transport ships.

New Towboat Delivered to Lorris G. Towing

M/V Cole Guidry, the newly designed Bollinger inland towboat, was delivered to owner Lorris G. Towing on December 16, 2016. The M/V Cole Guidry, designed and built by Bollinger Shipyards, is a 2,000 HP inland towboat measuring 80 feet by 36 feet with a 10-foot draft. The vessel is powered by three Caterpillar C18 Tier 3 engines rated at 670 HP each, supplied by Louisiana Machinery. The reduction gears are Twin Disc Model MGX517ODC with a ratio of 6:1. Electrical power is provided by three Kohler generators, 65 kW each, supplied by Caroline Marine.

Babcock LGE Process Secures Namura Contract

As part of its growing network of global partnerships, Babcock LGE, a wholly owned Engineering, Procurement and Project Management business of Babcock International Group, has secured a contract to design; supply and project manage the installation of a cargo handling system for a 38,000cbm Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) ship at Namura Shipbuilding Co. Ltd in Imari, Japan. Based in Edinburgh, this is LGE’s sixth contract with Japanese Shipbuilding business Namura, the contract marks Namura’s strategic return to the gas transportation market since the mid 2000s. Babcock LGE has  delivered many similar projects of varying sizes and plan to continue this success in a prosperous LPG market.

Sinotrans Pacts for Five Yamal LNG Tankers

Chinese shipping major Sinotrans has signed with Greek shipowner Dynagas and China LNG Shipping (CLNG) for the joint purchase of five Arctic-class LNG carriers from South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME). The agreement is structured as five separate joint ventures between the parties; each venture includes membership in the shipbuilding contract and in a 25-year time charter of the vessel to Yamal LNG. The time charter is for about $20 million per month per vessel. Upon the JV completion, the company indirectly owns 25.5% in the deal, whereas CLNG holds 25.5 percent stake and  Dynagas the remaining 49 percent. Total construction cost for the five vessels is estimated at $1.6 billion.

Evergas Orders Four Ethylene Vessels

Copenhagen-headquartered gas tanker carrier Evergas has just ordered four ethylene/ethane newbuildings, with an option for two more. The contract for the four newbuildings, each sized 32,000 cu m, has also been signed by Hong Kong engineering company JHW Engineering & Contracting. Despite having dimensions similar to previous vessels, the new vessels have a bigger capacity. Evergas said it expects to start taking delivery of the carriers from the first quarter of 2018. The dual-fuelled vessels which will use LNG to power their engines “will release the LNG transportation capacity of the existing Dragon series of LNG carriers,” according to Evergas.

JHW Engineering, Evergas Ink Tanker Deal

Evergas and JHW Engineering & Contracting have entered into an agreement for the construction of four option two INEOS MAX 32,000M3 liquefied ethane/ethylene carriers. The INEOS MAX 32,000M3 liquefied ethane/ethylene carriers are expected to carry a range of innovative features specifically tailored for safe, environmentally friendly and efficient operations. The cargo capacity has been increased more than 10% by optimizing the design of cargo tanks as well as layout of ship, without changing the main dimensions compared to the latest designs of 27,500 M3 class gas carriers. The dual fuel propulsion flexibility including LNG and ethane and the optimized ECO hull design will significantly reduce emissions, and the ballast water treatment system will protect the sea water environment.

Clean Energy Bunkers Isla Bella with LNG

Clean Energy Fuels Corp. participated in a little history last month when it supported General Dynamics (GD) NASSCO’s launch of the Isla Bella container ship, the first of its kind to operate on LNG fuel. Clean Energy provided bunkering services and fuel from its Boron, CA liquefaction plant for the GD NASSCO-built cargo ship, which was delivered to TOTE Maritime in San Diego. Clean Energy will also be providing bunkering services next month to the second GD NASSCO-built ship, the Perla Del Caribe. “As the maritime industry begins its transition to LNG, Clean Energy is able to bring our many years of fueling services to ensure an easy and seamless transition,” said Andrew J.
