AHM Offsets Emissions from Container Barge Service

Oldendorff in Bulker Deal with Bangladesh

German bulk carrier company Oldendorff Carriers  signed a Coal Transportation Agreement (CTA) with  Bangladesh Chinese Power Company limited(BCPCL).Oldendorff will provide a full transportation solution to BCPCL, which includes coal transportation from Indonesia or Australia with transshipment in Andaman & Nicobar to Payra power plant in Bangladesh.The coal transshipment will allow BCPCL to take advantage of lower freight costs using larger vessels to Andaman & Nicobar, and smaller vessels will deliver the cargo to BCPCL, due to draft restrictions at Payra port.Weather restrictions for transshipment in the Gulf of Bengal, due to northeast and southwest monsoons, make transshipment impossible for at least four months of the year.

LR approves ethane transportation solution

Classification society Lloyd's Register (LR) said it has awarded Babcock LGE with Approval in Principle (AiP) for a solution designed to maximize the economic transportation of ethane in very large ethane carriers (VLECs), by combining the reliquefaction and ethane fuel supply systems.Babcock’s ecoETHN solution separates excess methane from within the cargo boil-off gas (BOG) and feeds this into an ethane-fuelled VLEC engine, thereby reusing the incondensable methane gas as fuel.

Oldendorff Inks Transhipment Deal in Vietnam

Oldendorff Carriers said it has signed an integrated coal transport and transhipment agreement for a new power station project to be built in the North of Vietnam at Nghi Son. The customer is a consortium between Marubeni Corp of Japan and Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco) named Nghi Son 2 Power Limited Liability Company (NS2PC).The agreement is expected to include the transportation of about 100 million metric tons of coal over 25 years. Financial Support for Coastal Berths in India

The Ministry of Shipping in India has taken up projects worth Rs 2,302 crore (USD 356million) for financial assistance under the Coastal Berth Scheme of the flagship Sagarmala Programme. The Ministry, after due appraisal in consultation with NITI Aayog and Department of Expenditure, has extended the period of the scheme for three years, upto 31st March, 2020 and expanded its scope to cover capital dredging at Major Ports and preparation of DPR for coastal berth project, in Oct 2017. The projects under Coastal Berth Scheme of the flagship Sagarmala Programme are distributed over eight states with the highest number of projects in Maharashtra (12 projects)…

30 Kalmar Hybrid Shuttle Carriers for APM Terminals Tangier

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a contract with APM Terminals to deliver 30 Kalmar Hybrid Shuttle Carriers with high level of automation readiness as well as the related service and support to the customer's MedPort Terminal in Tangier, Marocco. The order was booked into Cargotec's 2016 fourth quarter order intake and the delivery is estimated to be completed by the end of 2018. This is Kalmar's biggest single order for horizontal transportation to date. The Tangier-Med 2 port is a greenfield transshipment terminal that is scheduled to be opened in 2019. It will serve the major shipping routes between Europe, Africa and Far East and respond to the anticipated significant cargo traffic increase in Africa in the coming years.

India Shipping Ministry Enlarges Scope of Sagarmala

Hyde Marine, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Calgon Carbon Corporation, has been selected as a strategic supply partner for ballast water treatment (BWT) systems by Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO) for use on ECO’s fleet of vessels. The chemical free Hyde Guardian Gold BWT system, which has both International Maritime Organization (IMO) Type Approval and United States Coast Guard (USCG) Alternative Management System (AMS) approval, uses efficient filtration and ultraviolet (UV) disinfection to treat ships' ballast water to prevent the spread of invasive species from port to port.

Demand for Coastal and Transoceanic ATBs Grows

Along the way, ATBs gain speed, efficiency, safety – and popularity. Operators of articulated tugs and barges, or ATBs, say they like the maneuverability, weather reliability, stability, speed of these units, and the manner in which the tug pushes the barge. As a marine transportation concept, they can also simply be described as versatile. ATBs move petroleum, chemicals, coal, grain, containerized cargo and rail cars for customers on the U.S. coasts, rivers, the Great Lakes and overseas. CEVA Logistics, a leading global supply chain management company, was awarded the Best Green Logistics Operator award at the 28th Asian Freight and Supply Chain Awards (AFSCA) held in Shanghai recently. Mediterranean Shipping Co. Announces Executive Promotions

Mediterranean Shipping Company Inc. has announced key executive promotions effective immediately. Barry Indig has been promoted to vice president, Global Accounts, and Paolo Magnani has been promoted to vice president Quality Control. Both are based in the company’s U.S. headquarters in New York City. Barry Indig began his maritime career in 1968 with Hellenic Lines where he worked in their Bulk Tank division and also in documentation. In 1970 he joined Mitsui OSK, followed by Zim America Lines where he established that carrier’s intermodal services. Indig continued his maritime experience by working with Tilston Roberts, a marine agency, where he served as import manager for all services.
