Shipping Experts to Discuss Arctic Opportunities

Minister Trond Giske, Secretary General Koji Sekimizu, Chairman Masamichi Morooka and Director General Sturla Henriksen will meet the press at on Wednesday, June 5 at 2 p.m. to discuss at a major Summit in Oslo, where the Board of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) will meet with political leaders from major shipping nations and the Secretary General of the United Nations’ International Maritime Organization (IMO) to discuss sustainability and shipping in the Arctic. The objective is to create a dynamic arena for dialogue between policy makers and the shipping industry.

Nor-Shipping 2013 opens just three months from now with a cast of speakers featuring top executives from world-leading companies covering the entire value chain of themaritime industry – from shipowners and technology and service companies to regulators and financiers. Among speakers welcoming delegates to the Opening Conference on June 4 will be Norway’s Minister of Trade and Industry Trond Giske, who will provide a governmental perspective, and IMO Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu, who will share regulatory insights.HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway will also attend.

Norway’s Crown Prince Opens Offshore Wind Farm

Today His Royal Highness, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway will officially open the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm built off the coast of Norfolk by owners Statoil and Statkraft. The Crown Prince will open the wind farm at an official ceremony at historic Holkham Hall in North Norfolk with support from UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Edward Davey; Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Ola Borten Moe; Minister of Trade and Industry, Trond Giske; and the owners’ presidents and CEOs, Helge Lund from Statoil and Christian Rynning-Tønnesen from Statkraft. Sheringham Shoal is owned equally by Statoil and Statkraft through the joint-venture company Scira Offshore Energy Limited.

Nor-Shipping Clean Ship, Next Generation Ship Awards

Nor-Shipping has released names of the winners of the 2011 Clean Ship and Next Generation Ship Awards. The winners were announced today at the Nor-Shipping Opening Conference on May 24, 2011. The awards, which showcase industry excellence, were presented by Norwegian Minister of Trade & Industry Trond Giske and Henrik Madsen, CEO of Det Norske Veritas (DNV).
