Volvo Penta, Danfoss Editron Power Hybrid CTVs

A pair of hybrid-electric crew transfer vessels (CTV) being built for Danish operator MHO&Co will be powered by propulsion systems manufacturer Volvo Penta and electrification specialist Danfoss Editron.The 35-meter CTVs were designed by MHO&Co in cooperation with Incat Crowther in the U.K. and Australia and are being constructed at the Afai Southern Shipyard in China for delivery in 2021.Volvo Penta marine gensets will help power these vessels – the electric propulsion power for the driveline will come from five variable speed Volvo D8 gensets.

Ocean Signal Introduces New AIS Transponders

Ocean Signal has rolled out its new ATA100 Class A and ATB1 Class B AIS transponders as fully compliant solutions to increase visibility, aid collision-avoidance and enhance navigational safety for a range of commercial workboats, support vessels and fishing boats. The AIS transponders were unveiled for the first time at Asia Pacific Maritime. The ATA100 is a combined SOLAS and Inland approved single-unit device capable of exchanging dynamic and static ship data with other AIS systems and developed to meet the latest IMO carriage requirements and IEC standards.

GE Introduces SeaLyte

GE’s Marine Solutions brings the latest technology in vessel control and dynamic positioning (DP) systems, SeaLyte. The new solution complements GE’s bespoke SeaStream solutions, providing a structured and standardized package to better serve customers with smaller vessels for offshore support and merchant markets. Marine companies are facing increased cost pressure to get through the current market downcycle. In response to the challenge, GE’s SeaLyte offers a range of configurable product solutions.

Sub M 90 Program Underway

MarineCFO Offers Vessel365 & Homeport365. Industry technology services provider, MarineCFO, has announced the “Sub M 90” Program commencing February 25, 2016 and terminating June 22, 2016. According to Tug & Barge Solutions, a Sub M consultant and MarineCFO partner, the Office of Management & Budget (OMB) received the Final Rule version of Sub Chapter M from United States Coast Guard on February 12, 2016. The OMB has until June 22nd to review the Sub Chapter M Final Rule prior to publication in the Federal Register. The MarineCFO “Sub M 90” Program kicked off on February 25, 2016 to support towing operators during this OMB review process. All Sub Chapter M impacted owners are eligible to advance order their onboard Vessel365 subscription through June 22, 2016 by contacting MarineCFO.

Marorka to Deploy Vessel Performance Solutions

Abu Dhabi's ADNATCO & NGSCO, the shipping arm of ADNOC and its group of companies, has signed an MOU with Marorka, incorporated and registered in Iceland, a leading company in marine energy management, to supply and install ship performance monitoring systems for the ADNATCO & NGSCO fleet. The agreement was signed by Dr. Ali Obaid Al-Yabhouni, CEO of ADNATCO & NGSCO, and by Ole Skatka Jensen, CEO of Marorka, on the side lines of ADIPEC 2015 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. “This agreement is part of our ongoing commitment to protecting the environment and optimizing the energy efficiency of our fleet using the trusted technology of our partner Marorka,” Dr. Al-Yabhouni said after the signing ceremony.

DNV Reports Strong half-year Performance

A focus on safety, service quality and the ability to provide leading-edge technology advice and solutions have contributed to the strong half-year performance for Det Norske Veritas Group AS (DNV). Revenues amounted to NOK 6,665 million and DNV strengthened its global position in all its key areas. While the industries served by DNV experience cyclical markets and are sensitive to global economic developments, DNV’s financial performance remains robust. The DNV Group achieved a strong first half-year performance, with nominal revenue growth of 13% over prior year to NOK 6,665 million. Organic growth was 5%. Maritime and Oil & Gas delivered robust organic growth rates, primarily due to DNV’s classification and verification services.
