SENER Names Álvaro Lorente as MD

Spanish engineering and technology group SENER has appointed Alvaro Lorente, former Operations Manager in the energy division as Managing Director.He graduated in Industrial Engineering from the Pontificia Comillas University (ICAI), majoring in Electrical Engineering, and joined SENER in 1991. Bolidt: Cruise Refits Surge

Bolidt Synthetic Products & Systems says a vibrant cruise ship refurbishment market has brought on an all-time high in refit work, including completion of five major ship projects so far this year, plus bookings for a further seven large ship jobs as part of a workload that the company says includes ‘dozens’ of forthcoming projects planned for well into 2019.In 2018, Bolidt has been a key participant in refurbishment and upgrade projects involving NCL’s Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Star; the RCCL vessels Mariner and Independence of the Seas; and the Azamara Club Cruises ship Azamara Pursuit.

SENER Celebrates 60 Years

The SENER engineering and technology group will celebrate its sixtieth anniversary in 2016. It has grown into a multidisciplinary international group which offers solutions in Aeronautics, Engineering and Construction, and Energy and Environment. SENER was founded on the basis of three important premises: to create high-quality projects, to anticipate the industry’s problems with innovative solutions, and to be independent and flexible in order to adapt to the market’s demands.

Semco Maritime strengthens Management Team

The international contracting and engineering company Semco Maritime has strengthened its Aberdeen team with three new appointments to support its continued growth. Brian Donaldson takes up the role of business development manager, with Colin Stewart and Gustav Ferrao appointed as assistant accountant and senior systems engineer respectively. Donaldson is a mechanical engineer and a member of the Institute of Measurement & Control. Donaldson's primary focus is to grow Semco's business in the UK, particularly in regards to Aberdeen based clients. “It is exciting to join Semco's team at this important phase in the company’s development,” said Donaldson. As assistant accountant, Stewart will support the Aberdeen-based finance team with the accountancy operations of Semco's UK facilities.

Sembcorp Marine to Ink Offshore Platform Contract

Sembcorp Marine subsidiary SMOE secures a Letter of Intent for an EPC Contract to build an offshore platform integrated topside. The contract worth about S$900 million, is from Det norske oljeselskap ASA, Norway, for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the process, drilling and quarters Platform (pdQ) topsides to be installed at a water depth of 112 metres for the Ivar Aasen development in the North Sea. The Ivar Aasen project is situated west of the Johan Sverdrup-field in the Norwegian Continental Shelf, 180km west of Stavanger, containing approximately 150 million barrels of oil equivalents. Hyundai Heavy, as a turnkey contractor, will undertake all works including engineering, procurement and commissioning for the USD 700 million project. The contract also includes an option exercisable by the owner to order an additional same class drilling rig. The rig will be built at Hyundai Heavy’s Gunsan Shipyard. Equipped with a 1,650 ton Goliath Crane and the world’s largest 1.3 million DWT dry dock, the Gunsan Shipyard has delivered 26 ships since its establishment in 2010.

Sonardyne Receives SPRINT Order From Saipem

Sonardyne International Ltd. has received an order valued at over £2.1 million from international oil and gas turnkey contractor Saipem. The order includes six SPRINT systems and associated acoustic positioning equipment, making it Sonardyne’s largest sale of acoustically aided inertial navigation technology to date. SPRINT (Subsea Precision Reference Inertial Navigation Technology) will be deployed in April in the West Delta Deep Marine concession (WDDM). This natural gas field is situated about 90 kilometers offshore the North-West Nile Delta, at water depths between 400 and 1,000 meters.

MESAB to Retrofit Tankers with BWT Systems

ME Solutions of Tumba Sweden (MESAB) has received an order from Alfa Laval Nordic AS regarding retrofitting two ships with the Pureballast PB500 2.0 system. The ships are owned by Frederiet AB in Sweden and chartered by the oil company Nynäs AB, which is a subsidiary of the Finnish oil company Neste Oil. The system will be installed in the pump rooms of the ships. All piping will be made of GRE type pipes. Installation is estimated to be completed January 2012. MESAB will carry out a complete turnkey delivery on behalf of Alfa Laval Nordic AS.

Drydocks World Regasification Terminal Project

Drydocks World - Dubai, a ship repair, conversion and new building yard and the flagship company of Drydocks World, announced that work is underway on its first ever Floating Storage Re-gasification Unit (FSRU) conversion project, known as the FSRU LIVORNO Project. The conversion of the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carrier, Golar Frost into an FSRU, is being handled by the Main Contractor, Saipem, a leading international turnkey contractor in the oil and gas industry and will be delivered to OLT Offshore LNG Toscana, a company operating in the Italian gas industry.

Celebrity Selects James P. Colie & Associates

James P. Colie & Associates will take on the refurbishment of several public spaces on Celebrity Cruises' Zenith, during the vessel's drydock at the Virginia locale of Newport News Shipbuilding this coming October. The company, based in Hollywood, Fla., was chosen by Celebrity as turnkey contractor for the Zenith refit project managing all aspects including: structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fabrication and interior outfitting details.

Celebrity Cruises Selects James P. Colie & Assoc. for Major Refit of Zenith

In one of the largest interior renovation projects in the history of James P. Colie & Associates, the company announced it will refurbish several large and luxurious public spaces on Zenith for Celebrity Cruises during a drydocking at Newport News Shipbuilding in October 1999. James P. Colie & Associates will be the turnkey contractor for the Zenith refit project, managing all aspects such as structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fabrication and the fine interior outfitting details. The areas to be refurbished include the AquaSpa, Cova Café and adjacent Cova Shop, Windsurf Café, Martini Bar, Michael's Club, library, card room, art gallery for Park West at Sea, gift shop, Rendez-Vous Square, disco/DJ club and upgrading all shops.
