OHT Enters Offshore Wind Turbine Installation Business

Offshore Heavy Transport (OHT), a company specializing in, well, offshore heavy transport, has decided to diversify its offering and dive into the offshore wind turbine generator installation business.OHT said Thursday it had entered into a binding Heads of Agreement with China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) in Jiangsu, China for the construction of two wind turbine generator (WTG) installation vessels.The company will have options to order two more vessels of the same type.

Maersk Drilling Joins Offshore CO2 Storage Project

Pemex Charters 2 CIMC Jack-ups

Mexican state-owned giant Pemex has chartered two jack-up rigs built and currently owned by Chinese yard CIMC Raffles.The two 400ft Jack-Up Drilling Rigs held a naming and departure ceremony at Longkou. The two rigs will soon sail to the gulf of Mexico to provide oil and gas drilling services to Pemex.Before that, CIMC Raffles and CMIC Ocean signed leasing contracts for the two rigs.The two rigs are named “Gulf Driller 6” and “Gulf Driller 8” respectively, are currently classified by ABS. They adopted JU2000E design which equipped with MHWirth drilling package, the over length is 70m, breadth is 76m, leg length is 167m.They are able to operate at water depth up to 120m(400ft) and drill wells down to 10668m(35000ft) at minus 20 degrees Celsius…

OHT Sisters Spoted in Singapore

CMHI, DNV GL Ink LoI for Two Jack-ups

Rowan Buys Two Jack-up Rigs from Petrobras

Offshore driller Rowan Companies plc said it has purchased two LeTourneau Super 116E jack-up rigs, the P-59 and P-60, both delivered new into service in 2013, in a public auction from a subsidiary of Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. for $38.5 million per unit. As reported in May 2017, Rowan was the high bidder in a Petrobras public auction with a bid price of $30 million per rig. While the high bid was not accepted by Petrobras, after negotiations, both parties agreed to the revised price. Rowan sad it intends to mobilize the jack-ups to the Middle East from their current location in Brazil in late first quarter 2018. Tom Burke, President and Chief Executive Officer, said, “We consider this purchase an opportunistic investment, made near a cyclical low, at a highly attractive price.

ARO Drilling Commences Operations

ARO Drilling, a 50/50 joint venture between Rowan Companies plc and the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco), commenced operations on October 17, 2017. As part of the initial startup of ARO Drilling, Rowan and Saudi Aramco contributed equal amounts of cash into the joint venture. Following these contributions, Rowan sold three of its jack-up drilling rigs to ARO Drilling, including the J.P. Bussell, which was previously idle, and Saudi Aramco sold one of its jack-up drilling rigs to ARO Drilling. Following the purchase of these drilling rigs, ARO Drilling distributed excess cash in the amount of approximately $88 million to each of Rowan and Saudi Aramco maintaining each party's 50% ownership interests in the joint venture.

Cosco Delays Delivery of Jack-up Rigs for Northern

Cosco (Dalian) Shipyard, subsidiary of Cosco Shipyard Group, has reached an agreement with Bermuda-based rig owner Northern Offshore to further delay the delivery dates of two jack-up drilling rigs amid challenging offshore drilling market. Dalian shipyard received an order for two LeTourneau Super 116E jack-up drilling rigs in November 2013 and the plan was to deliver the rigs in 1H2016 and 2H2016, respectively. According to the new agreement between the Chinese yard and Northern Offshore deliveries of the two rigs will also be deferred until further notice. Cosco Corp said that it is not possible to ascertain the financial impact of the rescheduling of the acceptances and deliveries of the rigs because it is uncertain when the rig owner will take delivery of the rigs.

Aramco Extends Seadrill Jack-up Deals

Seadrill, a London-headquartered offshore drilling contractor, said that Asia Offshore Drilling (AOD) has received three-year contract extensions for two jack-up rigs from Saudi Aramco. The jack-ups AOD I and AOD II received three year contract extensions from Saudi Aramco expiring in June 2019 and July 2019, respectively. AOD is an associate company of Mermaid Maritime and Mermaid has 3.76 percent equity stake in AOD while the other 66.24 percent equity is owned by Seadrill. The extensions are in direct continuation of the current contracts and have added approximately $225 million in contract backlog. These units have been working for Saudi Aramco since 2013 on a three-year contract that contained one extension option.

COSCO Delivers PSV and Two Jack-up Rigs

Cosco (Dalian) Shipyard Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of its 51 percent owned Cosco Shipyard Group Co., Ltd., has delivered two jackups to the Foresight Group of companies through United Arab Emirates-based drilling and rig management services firm Hallworthy International FZC. Cosco Dalian signed the delivery documents for the two jackups,"N527" and "N581" -- possibly Vivekanand 2 (350' ILC) and Vivekanand 3 (350' ILC) -- with the buyer recently. The  jack-up  rigs,  both  measuring  74.09  meters  in  LOA  (length  of  all),  62.80  meters  in width,  are  designed  to  operate  at  water  depths  of  350  feet  and  is  capable  of  performing drilling operations at depths of up to 30,000 feet.

Damen Bags Jack-up Pontoon Contract

Damen Shipyards Sharjah (DSS) in the United Arab Emirates has won a contract to build a shallow draught, self-propelled Jack-up Pontoon 3526 for the UAE-based contractor Aqua Diving Services Ltd. Once delivered, it will be used primarily to deliver offshore support services, including the provision of accommodation facilities for personnel as well as operating as a work platform with crane facilities. Aqua Diving Services (ADS) has specifically designed the Jack-up for Middle East operations and is closely cooperating with Damen Shipyards Sharjah for the construction of the unit. The jack-up, which will be named the Aqua Rise III and will have accommodation for up to 128 personnel with a 350m² of deck space and two cranes, rated at 75 and 15 tonnes respectively.

RINA Group Widens Gas Sector Services

International classification, certification and engineering group RINA said it has widened its services to the global gas industry. While its traditional classification society arm RINA Services has recently approved a new Compressed Natural Gas carrier to aid the exploitation of marginal fields, the groups’ engineering arm, D’Appolonia, is delivering geotechnical, social and environmental services to the Mozambique LNG development. The gas market and technology are constantly changing, and RINA Services and D’Appolonia lead those changes, according to the group. The first offshore FSRU, the first FLNG project, the first marine CNG ship and the longest offshore pipeline were all delivered with RINA expertise and assistance.

Fugro Lands Geotechnical Investigation

The planned 18 kilometre-long immersed tunnel will connect Denmark and Germany as part of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean corridor, one of the EU’s nine priority network corridors. Detailed knowledge of the subsurface soil properties is key for the proper design and execution of this challenging tunnel construction, for which the world’s largest construction and marine dredging companies are amongst the bidders. Fugro will deploy two jack-up rigs in the Fehmarnbelt seaway between the Danish island of Lolland and Fehmarn on Germany's Baltic coast. In July 2015 Fugro’s highly experienced geotechnical team will perform down-hole CPT (cone penetration testing), drilling and geotechnical laboratory work in water depths between 3 and 10 metres.

Northern Offshore Delays Deliveries for Two Jack-up Rigs

The Houston-based Rig player Northern Offshore has negotiated a nine month delay for the delivery of two high specification jack up rigs Energy Engager and Energy Encounter. It will push back the delivery of the Energy Engager and Energy Encounter from a shipyard in China. The Energy Engager will now be delivered in December 2016 and the Energy Encounter will be delivered in June 2017. Northern Offshore placed orders for the two LeTourneau Super 116E class jackups in October 2013, with the rigs are reportedly being built at COSCO Dalian shipyard in China. The delay will allow the company to defer $22 million in owner furnished equipment expenditures for the units from calendar year 2015 to 2016.

Maersk Interceptor Named in Norway

In a ceremony held at GMC Marine Partners yard in Mekjarvik in Norway, Mrs. Anita Utseth, Senior Vice President in Det norske oljeselskab ASA (Det norske) had the honour of naming the ultra harsh environment jack-up rig Maersk Interceptor. Maersk Interceptor is the second in a series of four ultra harsh environment jack-up rigs to enter Maersk Drilling’s fleet. The four jack-up rigs represent a total investment of USD 2.6bn. Maersk Interceptor will commence a five year firm contract with Det norske for drilling the Ivar Aasen field in the Norwegian North Sea in December 2014. The contract includes two one-year options. The estimated contract value for the firm contract is USD 700 million.

Seajacks Leviathan and Seajacks Kraken are prepared for their coming assignments, following a series of repair and renewal jobs by Shipdock Amsterdam. The shipyard, part of Damen Shiprepair & Conversion, had been commissioned for the two jack-ups by Seajacks UK Ltd. The Great Yarmouth (United Kingdom) based company has assigned the shipyard various and different major and minor adjustments on the two jack-up sister vessels in between North Sea offshore windfarm and oil & gas installation contracts.

McDermott: Rig Repair Contracts at Altamira Facility in Mexico

McDermott International, Inc. (NYSE: MDR) said that one of its subsidiaries has been awarded contracts to refurbish and undertake rig repair work at the McDermott Altamira fabrication facility in Tamaulipas, Mexico. The two jack-up rigs are the Friede & Goldman L-780 Mod II design and will undergo significant improvement work to re-instate them to ABS classification. This will include steel hull, piping, machinery, and electrical renewal, as well as blasting, painting and commissioning support. Work is scheduled to begin in the last quarter of 2012. McDermott’s Altamira fabrication facility has an expansive 1,640-ft. quayside, water depth of 41 ft. and less than three nautical miles tow distance to the deepwater Gulf of Mexico.
