UAE: First Arab Country to Win Category B Membership of IMO

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has now become the first Arab country to win Category B membership into the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council. The win was the triumphant result of an election that included nominees from 11 leading countries in the international marine trade sector such as Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, Brazil, Argentina, France and Australia. declaration was made during the 30th General Assembly meeting, amid international praise for the UAE's competitive advantages that has enabled the country to play a pivotal role in promoting the international maritime system and driving the growth of international maritime trade. Key to Somalia's Recovery

Piracy, terrorism and criminal activities originating in Somalia can only be addressed by creating a climate of security, engagement and empowerment that will encourage home grown businesses, international investment and alternative employment for Somalia’s young people. That’s one of the key conclusions of the second high level meeting of public and private sector experts on Somalia brought together by DP World and knowledge partner the Institute for Near East and Gulf Military Analysis (INEGMA) in Dubai under the theme ‘Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Opportunities, Communities’ Engagement and Soft Diplomacy’. The expert panel was the second in a series that form part of DP World’s ongoing counter piracy efforts and Somalia capacity building.

Dana Gas Receives $53m from Egypt

Dana Gas received from the Egyptian Government authorities $53m from the current total outstanding receivables of  $330m. Payment of $42 million has been received in US dollars and the balance in equivalent Egyptian pounds. Including this tranche, during 2013, Dana Gas has received a total of $130m from the Egyptian Government authorities. The Egyptian Government has committed to work with the company on a plan to repay the remainder of the outstanding receivables over an agreed time frame.

Dubai Maritime City to Join UAE-Korea Forum

Dubai Maritime City's team led by Chairman of Drydocks World & Maritime World, to participate in the UAE-Korea Economic Partnership Forum 2013. The event is supported by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade, Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Dubai Department of Economic Department, Foreign Direct Investment. The forum, from May 27-28, 2013 in Seoul, Korea, is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, supported by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade, Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Dubai Department of Economic Department, Foreign Direct Investment.
