Thordon Bearings Bags 24-Seal Order

Canadian manufacturer Thordon Bearings confirmed it has secured contracts to supply 24 TG100 propeller shaft seals to Drydocks World-Dubai and Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding and Repair yards for installation to six UAE Navy vessels. Each quad screw ship will operate a quartet of TG100 shaft seals.Rafid Qureshi, managing director of Dubai-based Ocean Power International (OPI), Thordon’s authorized distributor in the region, explained the award win was “a direct result of the yards’ recommendations”…

ADSB Scores $950 Million UAE Patrol Boat Contract

The United Arab Emirates has signed a 3.5 billion dirham ($950 million) contract with Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) to manufacture four new patrol vessels for the Gulf Arab state's navy, ADSB said on Tuesday.The Falaj 3-class Offshore Patrol Vessel contract was ADSB's largest ever order, which Chief Executive David Massey said gave it a sustainable and profitable future for the next five years.ADSB will build all four hulls in Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital, and is responsible for integrating systems, he said.Massey told Reuters ADSB first entered into talks with the UAE for the vessel contract s

Fincantieri in Pact with Abu Dhabi Shippbuilding

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri and Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding (ADSB) have reached a framework agreement to explore future forms of industrial and trade collaboration in the shipbuilding sector in the UAE.The accord is part of Fincantieri's development strategy in the Middle East based on fostering local activities both in the shipbuilding segment and in services and after sales activities in the region, a statement from Fincantieri said.The details of the accord between Fincantieri and ABDS - which is specialized in the construction, repair and refit of military and commercial vessels - will be finalised "in the near future" with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding…

Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding, Leonardo in UAE Navy MoU

Abu Dhabi Ship Building and Italy's Leonardo signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday to work together to create a combat-management system (CMS) for the United Arab Emirate's navy ships, state news agency WAM reported.The companies will work jointly on an integration laboratory capable of testing, maintaining and evolving the software of Leonardo's combat-management system, which is operational on more than 20 of the UAE Navy's ships, WAM said.The agreement also covers potential development of a joint logistic support solution for preventive and corrective maintenance and a local spare parts inventory for Leonardo naval systems.Reporting by Asma Alsharif and Alexander Cornwell

Rolls-Royce Extends Naval Services in the Gulf

Rolls-Royce has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with United Arab Emirates (UAE) based Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) to provide naval shipbuilding, repair and refit activities across the Gulf region. The MoU is for a definitive agreement for the provision of services, with the objective of becoming a preferred service partner to each other. The agreement will include fixed service rates for onsite service attendance and turnkey repair projects in the Rolls-Royce Dubai workshop.

Merchant Ship Collides with UAE Navy Vessel

A merchant ship collided with a United Arab Emirates navy boat as it was taking part in a routine mission off UAE territorial waters in the Gulf on Tuesday, the UAE armed forces said. There were no casualties in the incident and "other damage is being evaluated", state news agency WAM said, citing a statement from the General Command of the Armed Forces. It gave no details on the type of merchant ship, the cargo it was carrying or any details on whether shipping routes were affected. (Reporting by Sylvia Westall)

INS Sunayna Enters Abu Dhabi

The Indian Naval Offshore Patrol Vessel INS Sunayna, a state-of-the-art front line platform of the Indian Navy is on an Overseas Deployment to Abu Dhabi to participate in the International Defence Expo 2017 (IDEX 17) and Naval Defence and Maritime Security Exhibition 2017 (NAVDEX 17) in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates). The ship entered Mina Zayad port, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on 18th Feburary 2017. INS Sunayna will be participating in various events as part of IDEX 17 and will also utilise this opportunity to foster stronger relations with other friendly navies participating in IDEX 17 / NAVDEX 17. Built is Goa Shipyard Limited, INS Sunayna, is a fine example of India’s warship building capability and the promotes ‘Make in India’ concepts in the international exhibitions.

Attendees at the IQPC Offshore Patrol Vessels Middle East 2013 conference, which concluded on Dec. 11, agreed that that the safety and security of maritime commerce in the Arabian Gulf, Res Sea and their approaches, is an international responsibility shared by regional and international partners. The conference was chaired by Rear Admiral (R) Ahmed Al Sabab Al Teneiji, former chief of naval forces for the UAE Navy. The event focused on regional security cooperation; offshore patrol vessel design, procurement and operations; coastal surveillance; and maritime domain awareness.

As policy leaders wrapped up the Manama Dialog, an international security conference in Bahrain, maritime and naval leaders commenced their meetings in Abu Dhabi to discuss practical implementation of those policies and improving abilities of nations and partners to meet growing challenges to maritime security, safety and sovereignty. UAE Navy Receives Fincantieri Patrol Boat

Fincantieri Muggiano (La Spezia) shipyard in Italy has delivered the patrol boat 'Salahah' to the United Arab Emirates' Navy. The new ship's sister the Ghantut was delivered last January together with an "Abu Dhabi Class" corvette. The two patrol vessels – whose names come from an area of the Emirates near Abu Dhabi – were ordered in 2010 within the  “Falaj 2” program. The contract  provides for an option for a further two vessels in addition to technology transfer to a local shipyard for the construction of further sister ships.

Abu Dhabi Ship Building has announced that it is stepping up its focus on maintenance, repairs and overhauling services, which has been one of the fastest-growing business divisions of the company. Abu Dhabi Ship Building is currently showcasing its advanced MRO capabilities at the Doha International Maritime Defense Exhibition & Conference (DIMDEX), the only specialized maritime defense exhibition in the Middle East, being held from March 26 to 28, 2012, at the Qatar National Convention Centre. Middle East Shipbuilder's Revenue Up

Revenues up, net profit down reports Abu Dhabi Ship Building Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) has announced that its contract revenue jumped by more than Dh200 million (US$54.4m) last year to Dh1.3 billion but said its profit had slipped. The yard is constructing its remaining 72 m Bayunah-class corvette of six  for the UAE Navy, and is hopeful of orders from foreign navies.

UAE Navy Vessel Refit Completed at DMC

Latest Corvette for UAE Navy

Production work has begun on the last of six Baynunah corvettes being built for the UAE Navy by in the region’s largest-ever naval construction program. The Commander of UAE Naval Forces, Rear Admiral Ahmed Al Sabab Al Tenaiji, activated a computerized plasma cutting machine at ADSB’s Musaffah complex to begin cutting the steel for the sixth and final 72m vessel. Rolls-Royce Launches Light Waterjet

Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has launched a new waterjet for naval markets. The Kamewa FF67 will be the latest in the FF-series of aluminium waterjets, which are the lightest and most powerful in their power range. The new waterjet, available from late 2009, will also be suitable for commercial marine and offshore markets. Rolls-Royce said the FF67, which will be the most powerful of the FF series, is a new design incorporating built-in hydraulics for the first time. This will save installation time at shipyards and guarantee smooth start-up.

Abu Dhabi Starts Work on Landing Craft

Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) has begun work on the first of two steel landing craft being built for the Royal Bahrain Naval Forces. The contract for the 137.8 ft vessels was won against stiff competition from international shipyards, further confirming ADSB’s position as the region’s leading provider of support services to GCC navies. It is ADSB’s first new building contract for Bahrain and also includes two 62.5 ft Sea keeper landing craft constructed in composite materials.

ADSB, Next Phase of Corvette Class Program

Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), the leading shipbuilder and naval support services provider in the Arabian Gulf region, has commenced the next phase of its Baynunah Corvette Class pride Program constructions for the UAE Navy. The Prime Contractor has moved the second vessel from the assembly hall where it will pass through its final systems outfitting in preparation for its launching sometimes later in this year where it will go through an intensive acceptance trials prior to the final delivery to the UAE Navy. The First Of Class has already been launched in mid 2009.
