New Marine Expo Focused on Cruise Interiors

Marine Interiors Cruise & Ferry Global Expo, powered by SMM, is the most recent addition to the maritime exhibition portfolio of Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH (HMC).Launching this year, the new trade fair is dedicated to the interior design and outfitting of passenger ships, addressing strong demand from the booming cruise and ferry market. Marine Interiors Cruise & Ferry Global Expo will take place for the first time from September 11-13, 2019 at the Hamburg Messe fair complex. Marintec China Indicates Growth

Marintec China exhibition has grown by 14% since its last edition to cover 80,000 sq m with over 2,000 exhibiting companies  from 34 countries  defying the talk of a slowdown in China and its hard-hit shipyards. The two years since the last Marintec China event have not been the easiest for the Chinese maritime industries or the world of shipping in general. It is Asia’s largest maritime event it is also the second largest in the world. UBM Asia, organisers of the show,  focus on  the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Roadand surrounding business opportunities at the Marintec China 2015 Senior Maritime Forum. China's planned 21st Century Maritime Silk Road connects ports in China to those in Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Europe, including Venice.

31st Edition of Cruise Shipping Miami

Cruise Shipping Miami 2015 is gearing up to offer the most comprehensive and robust roster of panel discussions featuring the industry's most knowledgeable and experienced executives. The panels will be grouped under several broad themes based on industry trends during the four-day conference. The 31st edition of Cruise Shipping Miami is scheduled for March 16-19 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Organized by UBM Connect, thematic topics include The Geography of Cruise Tourism, Safety and Ship Operations, Market Segments and Cruise Product Development. Cruise Conference Notes Asia Port Infrastructure Shortfall

Second annual Cruise Shipping Asia-Pacific conference opens in Singapore with State of Asia Cruise Industry panel discussions. Gianni Onorato, president of Costa Crociere, noted that port infrastructure in Asia is still lacking, along with consumer education. "The major issue here is to explain what cruising is to the customers," said Onorato. "The second challenge is how to offer destinations and itineraries that can be reached in a competitive way cost-wise. We have a number of major homeports in the region, but they need other ports of call that are able to accommodate ships. Today, this is not the case and one of the major obstacles to growth. Onorato noted that since 2006, Costa has invested tens of millions of euros in China in distribution and advertising.

Transnet SOC is South Africa's national transport arm and the governing body for the country's rail, pipelines, ports and terminals. During his keynote address, Molefe will discuss Transnet's recently announced, four-point growth strategy, which includes plans to invest R110.6 billion (US$12.9 billion) in new rail equipment, the widening and deepening of ports and building a new pipeline to solve South Africa's infrastructure challenges. Molefe is a South African businessman who has also worked in the office of the premier in the Limpopo, where he was responsible for strategic planning.

Journal of Commerce Poll on Economic Recovery

A majority of the attendees at the ninth annual Journal of Commerce Trans-Pacific Maritime conference do not expect a recovery from the global economic downturn and a return in growth of trans-Pacific trade before 2011, according to live poll questions asked during the conference. The response to audience questions at the recent conference in Los Angeles highlighted strong pessimism about prospects for recovery in coming months. Moreover, attendees said that because of tighter credit and the long-term impact on consumer spending they do not expect trans-Pacific containerized trade to return to growth rates between 2002 and 2006, when retail sales led to enormous growth in U.S. imports.
