Design Approval Sought for Fuel Cell High-Speed Vessel

TECO 2030 and Umoe Mandal have delivered a documentation package to the Norwegian Maritime Authority for an approval in principle application of the world’s first fuel cell high-speed vessel design.The designed vessel is designed to be installed with a multimegawatt fuel cell system for full propulsion.The ship will be constructed based on Umoe Mandal’s proven Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) Surface Effect Ship (SES) technology and with the air-cushion catamaran design it will offer low imprint on surrounding environment…

Umoe Mandal Unveils New Crew Transfer Vessel

The new WAVECRAFT Voyager 38 X is designed to reduce transit time, improve crew and passenger comfort, safety and efficiency, expand operational envelop and reduce logistical cost, Umoe Mandal said. Voyager 38X incorporates air-cushion catamaran and Surface-Effect-Ship (SES) technologies with a motion control system that compensates for vertical wave motion to offer comfortable transit and safe access to other vessels and installations offshore. The vessel may be outfitted with a gangway and a SeaSpyder personnel transfer system.

Umoe Mandal Places Order with DuroWipers

Norwegian operator Umoe Mandal has purchased six External Panorama Pantograph heavy duty windscreen wipers from U.K. based DuroWipers to equip a newbuild Surface Effect Ship (SES). Statkraft has entered into an initial six month charter agreement for the new WaveCraft vessel to transport its O&M turbine technicians to and from the Sheringham Shoal offshore windfarm off the coast of Norfolk. Fast Patrol Boat Delivered to Norwegian Navy

DCNS and its Norwegian partners deliver the fifth Skjold Fast Patrol Boat (FPB) to the Norwegian Navy. The six-boat Skjold program is led by a consortium comprising DCNS and two Norwegian contractors with DCNS acting as the combat system design authority and co- supplier. The naming ceremony of the new delivery Gnist recently took place at Umoe yard in Mandal. Skjold FPBs are designed specifically for maritime security and safety missions in Norway’s littoral waters. The combat system is tailored to demanding environments and reduced crewing.

The Skjold shipbuilding program is carried through by a consortium of three contractors with DCNS as the combat system design authority and co-supplier. DCNS works with Norwegian contractors Umoe Mandal and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, through the Skjold Prime Consortium. Skjold FPB's are designed specifically for maritime security and safety missions in Norway’s littoral waters. The combat system is tailored to demanding environments and reduced crewing. The communications and sensor suites are fully compatible with active participation in international and NATO-led operations.

Offshore Renewable Energy: Servicing North Sea Wind Turbines

A boat with suspension, a giant robotic arm and a vessel resembling a seahorse are just three of the innovative concepts shortlisted by the Carbon Trust as part of a competition to solve the problem of transferring engineers and equipment safely on to wind turbines as far as 300km offshore in wave heights up to around three meters. The project aims to improve the economics of offshore wind by keeping turbines generating electricity in the harshest sea conditions to increase revenues by as much as £3bn for the next generation of the UK’s offshore wind farms.

Goodrich Included on LCS Team

Goodrich Corporation is a member of the Raytheon-led team recently selected by the U.S. Navy to finalize preliminary designs of a Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) -- the next- generation surface combatant. The team has seven-months to finalize designs. In addition to Raytheon as the prime contractor, the team consists of Goodrich's Jacksonville, Florida-based Engineered Polymer Products division along with John J. McMullen and Associates, Umoe Mandal, and Atlantic Marine, Inc. Littoral Combat Ship: It’s Down to 3

The multi-billion contract to build a new family of Navy ships took one giant step last month with the awarding of development contracts to three industry teams. The fight to win the contract to design and build the family of Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) is sure to be fierce, as the deal to build up to 60 of the vessels will help feed the corporate coffers of the successful team for decades to come. LCS is indicative of the Navy's transformation from a deepwater fleet leftover from the Cold War threat of only one other credible super power, to the reality of today's multi-faceted threat environment: small, hard to find and diverse groups around the globe.
