Fincantieri in Pact with Abu Dhabi Shippbuilding

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri and Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding (ADSB) have reached a framework agreement to explore future forms of industrial and trade collaboration in the shipbuilding sector in the UAE.The accord is part of Fincantieri's development strategy in the Middle East based on fostering local activities both in the shipbuilding segment and in services and after sales activities in the region, a statement from Fincantieri said.The details of the accord between Fincantieri and ABDS - which is specialized in the construction, repair and refit of military and commercial vessels - will be finalised "in the near future" with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding…

Merchant Ship Collides with UAE Navy Vessel

A merchant ship collided with a United Arab Emirates navy boat as it was taking part in a routine mission off UAE territorial waters in the Gulf on Tuesday, the UAE armed forces said. There were no casualties in the incident and "other damage is being evaluated", state news agency WAM said, citing a statement from the General Command of the Armed Forces. It gave no details on the type of merchant ship, the cargo it was carrying or any details on whether shipping routes were affected. (Reporting by Sylvia Westall)

Abu Dhabi Ship Building to Deliver 3 UAE Warships by 2016

Abu Dhabi Ship Building Company will deliver three Baynunah warships to the United Arab Emirates Navy by 2016 and is in discussions with other buyers to sell more, its chief executive said on Monday. "There are discussions with some of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries as well as other international ones. Hopefully there will be something in the future," Khaled al-Mazrouei said on the sidelines of the Naval Defence Conference. The fall in oil prices has put pressure on government spending across the Gulf region.

Kalaat Beni-Abbes Delivered at Muggiano Shipyard

The delivery ceremony of new amphibious vessel for the Algerian Navy  was held today at the Muggiano shipyard (in La Spezia). The "Kalaat Beni-Abbes" (from the name of a place in the north of the country, which in Arabic means fort of the sons of Abbes), a vessel commissioned in 2011 by the Ministry of Defence of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria from Orizzonte Sistemi Navali, a company controlled by Fincantieri in which Selex ES also holds an interest, will serve as the national Navy's new flagship. Emirates Navy Receives Third New Corvette

The United Arab Emirates Navy has taken delivery of the third Corvette (named 'Al Dhafra') in a series of six ordered from Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding Company, reports CanIndia. These warships, part of the largest construction programme in the Middle East, have multi-mission capabilities, including coastal patrol and surveillance, mine detection and avoidance, helicopter operations, as well as anti-air and anti-surface capabilities. The key features of the warships include a stealth-like superstructure, a helicopter landing deck and a hangar.

UAE Navy Receives Fincantieri Patrol Boat

Fincantieri Muggiano (La Spezia) shipyard in Italy has delivered the patrol boat 'Salahah' to the United Arab Emirates' Navy. The new ship's sister the Ghantut was delivered last January together with an "Abu Dhabi Class" corvette. The two patrol vessels – whose names come from an area of the Emirates near Abu Dhabi – were ordered in 2010 within the  “Falaj 2” program. The contract  provides for an option for a further two vessels in addition to technology transfer to a local shipyard for the construction of further sister ships.

"Abu Dhabi" ASW corvette and "Ghantut" FALAJ2 patrol vessel deliverd to United Arab Emirates Navy by Fincantieri's Muggiano Shipyard. The "Abu Dhabi class" project has evolved from the "Cigala Fulgosi" one, which led to the construction of four "Commandante" class ships for the Italian Navy. Fincantiere Launch Second EAU Patrol Boat

Her sister ship, the “Ghantut”, was launched last January. The two vessels – whose names come from an area of the Emirates near Abu Dhabi – were ordered in 2010 within the  “Falaj 2” program and will be delivered between the end of 2012 and early 2013. The patrol vessels “Ghantut” and “Qarnen”, at 55 metres long and 8.60 wide, will be capable of reaching over 20 knots and can accommodate a crew of 28. Their main feature is their particular geometry which will make them difficult to trace by radar (stealth).

ADSB To Start Navy Contract

Abu Dhabi Ship Building Company (ADSB) is preparing to start work on building six missile patrol boats ordered by the United Arab Emirates navy. William Saltzer, marketing and contracts manager at ADSB, said the firm expects to start work on the first vessel as soon as the contract was signed, which he said was expected before the end of the year. "We'll start as soon as the contract is signed. The intention is to sign before the end of this year," Saltzer said. "We are working together with the UAE navy to finalize the contract details and conducting planning activities," he added. A UAE military spokesman on Thursday announced that the UAE has awarded ADSB a contract to build six missile patrol boats for its navy.
