Women Engineers Play Key Role in Submarine Races

UK Think-Tank Hosts IDICORE Summer School
HR Wallingford hosts Industrial Doctorate Centre in Offshore Renewable Energy (IDCORE) participant programme. Woodland Support Cycling Submariners
Woodland International Transport got on its bike to sponsor a team of engineering undergraduates by shipping their pedal-powered submarine to and from the United States. Inspired by penguins' swimming technique, the University of Bath students created a submarine called the SeaBomb, powered by a pilot who pedals on a machine similar to an exercise bike. Woodland shipped the vessel to the USA where it participated in the 9th International Submarine Races, held in June at the Naval Surface Warfare Center's Carderock Division in Bethesda, Maryland. Believed to be the fastest of its type in the world, the SeaBomb took second place for 'top speed by a non-propeller driven one-mansub'; came third in the innovation category and achieved an honorable mention for overall performance.
