ABS Drives Game-changing Tech through Research

University Partnership Symposium spotlights research that aims to contribute to sustainable solutions for industry. Classification society ABS has revealed technological advances at its recent University Partnership Symposium in Houston. ABS said the research it is funding through some of the top universities around the world will lead to disruptive technology that will impact the role of classification. Academic leaders from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Michigan, George Washington University and the State University of New York Maritime College presented at the ABS-hosted event, which engaged participants from academia and industry.

Ensco CFO Jay Swent to Retire

Ensco plc announced that EVP & CFO Jay Swent will retire after more than 11 years of service. Swent will continue to serve in his current role until the succession process has been completed and a new CFO has been named. The completion of the succession process may extend into the first half of next year. Swent joined Ensco in July 2003 and was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in July 2012. Prior to his current position, Swent served as Senior Vice President – Chief Financial Officer.

ABS Names Director of Technology Integration

ABS has appointed Diana Diettrich to director, technology integration. engineering. Houston, Texas, as part of the classification society's overall global technology and research efforts. Diettrich joined ABS as a field surveyor in 1981. Since then she has held various U.S. based and international survey assignments before joining the Americas Division Classification staff and later the ABS Corporate Classification staff. Her most recent assignment was Survey Manager within ABS' Corporate Technology Division. Diettrich is a graduate of Texas Maritime Academy with a BS degree in Marine Engineering. She also received an MBA from Our Lady of the Lake University and a Master's of Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.

ENSCO Appoints New V.P and CFO

James "Jay" W. Swent has been named by ENSCO’s Board of Directors to serve as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately. Swent previously held various financial executive positions at Memorex Corporation and Nortel Networks, and served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Executive Officer of both Cyrix Corporation and American Pad and Paper Corporation. He is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, where he received a B.S. in Finance and a Masters Degree in Business Administration. Carl F. Thorne, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ENSCO, said "We are pleased that Jay is joining our management team, and look forward to his contribution.

American Club Announces New Appointments

Dr William H Moore will shortly be joining Shipowners Claims Bureau Inc. (SCB), managers of the American P&I Club, to take charge of its growing technical, safety and loss prevention activities. Dr Moore joins SCB from the Bergen office of Gard Services AS, where, as a vice president, he has had responsibility for the loss prevention, risk assessment and technical services of Gard’s substantial P&I and hull/machinery portfolios. An American, Dr Moore, 41, holds a doctorate in engineering, naval architecture and offshore engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, together with a master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
