Nonprofit Honors Boysie Bollinger for Outstanding Achievements

Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc., a nonprofit educational organization honoring the achievements of outstanding individuals and encouraging youth to pursue their dreams through higher education, today announced that Donald T. “Boysie” Bollinger, Chairman and CEO of Bollinger Enterprises, LLC and retired Chairman and CEO of Bollinger Shipyards, has been selected for membership in this prestigious organization. Mr. Bollinger joins 12 other exceptional business, civic and cultural leaders from across North America in receiving 2023 honors.

Partners Awarded $50 Million to Create Clean Hydrogen Cluster in South Louisiana

The U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) earlier this month awarded a $50 million federal grant to H2theFuture, a 25-organization partnership aiming to develop a new energy cluster in South Louisiana, spanning the clean hydrogen life cycle, from R&D at Louisiana universities, to an end-use project at the Port of South Louisiana.The award is one of 21 projects from around the country chosen from 529 applicants that were funded by a $1 billion appropriation from the American Rescue Plan Act…

Angelle Named BSEE Director

Former Louisiana state official Scott A. Angelle will head-up the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE). Angelle, who most recently served as Vice Chairman of the Louisiana Public Service Commission, will assume his new position May 23. “Scott Angelle brings a wealth of experience to BSEE, having spent many years working for the safe and efficient energy production of both Louisiana’s and our country’s offshore resources,” Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke said.

Swiftships Continues Autonomous Watercraft R&D

U.S. shipbuilder Swiftships, LLC has partnered with Virginia-based technology solutions company ICS Nett Inc. (ICS) to continue research and development efforts on the Anaconda, a Special Operation Craft Riverine (SOCR). Together, ICS and Swiftships will strive to transform the Anaconda into a completely autonomous watercraft equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities that is faster and has more complex maneuverability than its predecessor. Thibodeaux Named President of Fugro Chance

Offshore survey company Fugro Chance Inc. has appointed Blaine Thibodeaux to president. His responsibilities include Fugro’s Gulf of Mexico and Arctic offshore operations, including marine positioning, offshore construction and subsea projects, and international services. Having begun his career with Fugro’s IT group in 1996, Thibodeaux joined John Chance Land Surveys (a Fugro company) in 1997. As a Division Manager, he oversaw FLI-MAP, the airborne corridor mapping system, collecting thousands of miles of LiDAR data for federal and state agencies and the private sector.

U.S. companies continue to land lucrative contracts with domestic and foreign customers for vessels that are designed or specially customized to meet defense, police and anti-piracy needs. Governments here and abroad, meanwhile, continue to cut budgets. Many of the security craft to be delivered this year are built to save energy, reduce emissions and reach higher speeds and greater cruising ranges than their predecessors. They have the latest tracking and communications systems. And a few new vessels are remotely operated.

Bollinger Shipyard Stalwart VP Dave Marmillion to Retire

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. headquartered in Lockport, La., inform of the upcoming retirement of its Vice President Repair, Eastern Division, Dave Marmillion, after 46 years in the shipyard industry. Marmillion’s retirement was announced by Bollinger’s Chief Operating Officer, Ben Bordelon, who said, “Dave has been an integral part of Bollinger’s growth and a mentor to many in the shipyard industry over the past 46 years. Marmillion started his shipyard career as a lifelong resident of the New Orleans Westbank area. He attended West Jefferson High School and graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond, Louisiana in Industrial Technology.

Swiftships Unveils USV with the University of Louisiana-Lafayette

Last month, Swiftships Shipbuilders, LLC, in Morgan City, La., showcased the Anaconda-2 – an unmanned, 35-ft. craft in development – during a demonstration on the Atchafalaya River next to its HQ. The company partnered with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette more than a year ago to produce technology for a vessel that can navigate without a pilot aboard. Swiftships and ULL are designing a boat that uses Global Positioning System/sensory data, and has the potential to support naval, enforcement and zone-protection operations, mainly on inland waters.

Bergeron, President, Tesla Offshore LLC has announced that Donizeti Carneiro has joined Tesla Offshore LLC as the company’s area manager for South America, with an office in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. For the past 13 years Donizeti has been involved with the Brazilian offshore oil and gas industry, ten of those years managing C&C Technologies’ efforts in that area. At the beginning of his professional career, Donizeti worked as a civil engineer and after five years he pursued a PhD degree in Geophysics and shifted his career to mining, oil and gas and applied Geophysics projects.

New CEO Arrives at LITE

Louisiana Immersive Technologies Enterprise’s (LITE) newly appointed chief executive officer (CEO), Dr. Kam Ng, has officially arrived and is active in his new position. Lagrange New Chair of AAPA

The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) has named Gary LaGrange, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Port of New Orleans, as Chairman of the AAPA Board for 2004-2005. "Gary LaGrange is extremely well respected by his colleagues in the port industry," said AAPA President Kurt Nagle. "He was unanimously elected to be Chairman of the Board by port officials throughout the Western Hemisphere. Gary LaGrange took leadership of the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans in 2001. A native of South Louisiana, LaGrange came to New Orleans after serving as Executive Director of the Mississippi State Port Authority at Gulfport.
