Fathom to Focus on Student Education

Fathom is finalizing preparations for its July 17 Dominican Republic voyage representing the first ever cruise to the Caribbean focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programming. The 7-day cruise will feature specialized STEM-focused workshops for educators that Fathom developed in close collaboration with the Center for Science Teaching and Learning (CSTL). Oil CEO Hamm Sought Ouster of Scientists Looking at Quakes

Oilman Harold Hamm, CEO of Continental Resources Inc., told a University of Oklahoma dean last year that scientists studying links between oil drilling and earthquakes should be dismissed, Bloomberg News reported on Friday. Bloomberg, citing emails obtained through a public records request, said Hamm indicated he wanted to see some scientists at the Oklahoma Geological Survey, which is based at the university, let go. Scientists have said the reinjection of drilling and fracking wastewater into disposal walls could be tied to earthquakes. Bloomberg said a university spokeswoman denied any interference from Hamm, who has been a donor to the university. Bloomberg said no changes were made to the university's team of scientists.

LAGCOE Announces 2013 Officers

Louisiana Gulf Coast Oil Exposition (LAGCOE) appointed its 2013 officers, according to LAGCOE Executive Director Angela Cring. Kirby Arceneaux has been named 2013 LAGCOE Chairman. Since 2001, Arceneaux has been an active contributor to the success of LAGCOE, serving continuously in leadership roles on Public Relations, Exhibit Judges and Executive Committees as well as serving on the Board of Directors.
