Rear Admiral Hann Confirmed to NOAA Leadership Post

New Captain Aboard USCG Cutter Stratton

A Change of Command Ceremony is scheduled for U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Stratton at Coast Guard Island, Alameda, Calif., Thursday, at 10:30 a.m. During the ceremony Capt. Andrew M. Sugimoto will relieve Capt. Charles L. Cashin III, as Stratton’s commanding officer. Vice Adm. Paul F. Zukunft, Commander, Pacific Area and Defense Forces West, will preside over the ceremony. Cashin is a native of Chelmsford, Mass., and has served aboard seven cutters, commanding three of them. He is a 1988 graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

BOEMRE to Aggressively Recruit Environmental Scientists

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) today launched a focused, nationwide recruitment campaign to fill current and new environmental science positions at the agency. “As we work to elevate the role of science in our decision-making, we must attract top-flight environmental scientists to conduct scientific studies, complete legally-mandated environmental reviews, and fill important positions in environmental compliance,” said BOEMRE Director Michael R. Matsuda Nominated MARAD Administrator

President Barack Obama has announced his intent to nominate David T. Matsuda, Administrator, Maritime Administration, Department of Transportation. David T. Matsuda has been serving as Deputy Administrator and Acting Administrator of the United States Maritime Administration since July 2009. NG Training Packages for NROTC

Naval Reserve Officer Training Candidate (NROTC) students at college campuses in San Diego have become the first to use an advanced navigation training package supplied by Northrop Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE: NOC) Sperry Marine business unit. The computerized learning DVDs contain 16 interactive courseware (ICW) training lessons on the use and operation of Sperry Marine’s Voyage Management System (VMS) ship navigation software. They are being used in the navigation training curriculum for NROTC students at the University of San Diego and other greater San Diego college campuses. “The eLearning courseware will give the NROTC students an opportunity to become familiar with the standard electronic navigation system used throughout the U.S. Navy surface and submarine fleets.

Coast Guard Appoints Director of Intelligence

The United States Coast Guard has named Frances Fragos-Townsend as its Director of Intelligence. In this position, Fragos-Townsend leads the service’s Intelligence Directorate, the Intelligence Coordination Center and act as program manager for the Coast Guard’s national intelligence effort.
