Partners Agree Emission Reductions on Rotterdam-Singapore Corridor

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the Port of Rotterdam Authority and 20 partners in the Green & Digital Shipping Corridor are working to reduce 20% to 30% of emissions from international shipping by 2030. This was agreed at the third Green Corridor workshop, held this week in Rotterdam.The Green & Digital Shipping Corridor was established in August 2022 to bring together partners across the supply chain to realise zero and near-zero emissions shipping on the Rotterdam-Singapore route, with the ultimate aim to reach net-zero emissions in 2050.

Singapore Completes First Methanol Bunkering

Maersk and Hong Lam Marine have conducted the worldā€™s first ship-to-container ship methanol bunkering operation of a Maerskā€™s container vessel at the Raffles Reserved Anchorage in Singapore.This was also Singaporeā€™s first methanol bunkering and it was conducted with the support of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), government agencies and research institutes.Maerskā€™s container vessel ā€“ the worldā€™s first container vessel sailing on green methanol ā€“ was successfully refuelled with approximately 300 metric tonnes of bio-methanol via Hong Lam Marineā€™s Singapore-registered tankerā€¦

Suez Canal Blockage Adds Strain to Global Supply Chains

A stuck container vessel in the Suez Canal, which has blocked the flow of goods through the narrow channel, will add strain to global supply chains already stretched by rebounding economic activity and tight shipping container supplies, analysts said on Friday.The 400-metres long Ever Given container vessel has been stuck in the canal since Tuesday, suspending traffic of containers transporting goods, parts and equipment through the shortest sea link between Europe and Asia.Theā€¦

Singapore Launches GeoSpace-Sea Initiative

GeoSpace-Sea, a new database on Singapore's waters, from its coastlines to the seabed, was launched yesterday (June 28) by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).GeoSpace-Sea aims to provide comprehensive geospatial data for port and coastal planning, among other things, as well as environmental management.MPA, together with 11 other government agencies and the Tropical Marine Science Institute from National University of Singapore, will develop GeoSpace-Sea in phases.ā€œThe marine knowledge generated through the GeoSpace-Sea initiative will serve us well in the areas of marine and coastal spatial planning, marine science R&D, marine conservation, climate change adaptation, and disaster response,ā€ said Dr Lam Pin Min, Senior Minister of State for Transport and Health.

DNV GL, NTU Partner in 3D Printing

The global quality assurance and risk management company DNV GL and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore (NTU) are supporting academic advances in additive manufacturing ā€“ the process of 3D printing ā€“ for the maritime, oil and gas and other industries, through a four-year research collaboration agreement.Two new doctoral student (PhD) positions are being created through the Industrial Postgraduate Programme, supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and DNV GL. A further full time Research Fellow post is also being created at NTUā€™s Singapore Centre for 3D Printing.The research agreement will focus on developing industry standards, quality assurance processes, certification and supply chain tracking for the additive manufacturing sector. Containershipping: Restoring Balance

The repositioning of empty containers costs the liner industry an estimated $15-20billion every year according to Boston Consulting Group (BCG), as containers sit idle at a depot or are repositioned to a different loading point while empty. ClassNK Singapore Celebrates 50 Years

ClassNK hosted an anniversary party on July to commemorate 50 years of its Singapore Office, established in 1967 to broaden the classification societyā€™s service network in Southeast Asia. Global Maritime, a provider of marine warranty, dynamic positioning and engineering services to the offshore sector, has made two important hires to support its Asia Pacific (APAC) operations. Rolls-Royce Signs MoU to Develop Smart Ships

Rolls-Royce and the Technology Center for Offshore and Marine, Singapore (TCOMS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to form a strategic partnership to develop smart ship technologies. The partners will work on world leading research to develop fundamental technologies, such as smart sensing, digital twinning and integrated modelling which are essential to the development of future marine data based solutions. These developments will be applied to technology demonstrators to show how they can be used by specific ship types.

Grand Bahama Shipyard Expands Sales Team

Grand Bahama Shipyard Limited (GBSL) has added three regional sales directors to its Marketing and Sales Division, with posts in the Americas, Europe and Asia/Middle East. According to the shipyard, their prime objectives will be to increase yard exposure, as well as develop future projects with existing and new customers for their refit, refurbishment or revitalization projects. Andre Szadzinski joined GBSL in August 2016 as Regional Sales Director for North and South America.
