Canadian shipping company the CSL Group said it has taken delivery of CSL Kajika, the second of two converted 77,250 DWT gravity fed self-unloading ships at COSCO Nantong shipyard, on October 22, 2021.The vessel will operate in the CSL Americas fleet as part of the CSL International Pool, where it will join sister-ship CSL Koasek, which was delivered on August 30, 2021, and is trading on the North American West Coast since late September this year.Both CSL Kajika and CSL Koasek were previously Kamsarmax bulk carriers that are being into modern, gravity-fed self-unloaders.

The heavy lift shipping and offshore transportation & installation contractor Jumbo Maritime has recently completed two shipments of two giant ship unloaders from Gdynia Port, Poland to Djen Djen Port in Algeria for Fagioli.The ship unloaders are intended for unloading bulk cargo from vessels on the quayside.The first lift and shipment was made last December 2018. The MV Fairmaster and her crew lifted the 1400t, 60 metres high ship unloader. The team then sailed through Egersund and Rotterdam before arriving in Algeria for discharging in Djen Djen.The second shipment was made in February 2019. The provider of marine transportation services Algoma Central Corporation announced that the recently completed Algoma Conveyor, the third Seawaymax Equinox Class 740’ self-unloading dry-bulk carrier, has begun its delivery voyage from China to Canada.The vessel began its two month journey home, departing the Yangzijiang shipyard on February 16, 2019.After taking fuel in the Philippines the vessel will cross the Pacific Ocean, travelling through the Panama Canal and from there will make its way to Canada. The dry bulk operator Oldendorff Carriers sold the three remaining self-unloaders still operating in the CSL Pool for US$100.5 million to Algoma Central Corporation.CSL International Pool is a partnership between Oldendorff Carriers, Marbulk Shipping Inc. and Algoma Shipping Inc.The vessels -Sophie Oldendorff (70,037 tdw built 2000), Harmen Oldendorff (66,188 tdw built 2005) & Alice Oldendorff (50,259 tdw built 2000) -  are expected to deliver to Algoma around the middle of 2019.All three vessels have been trading in the CSL Pool on the East Coast of North and South America since they were built. Algoma Central Corporation (TSX: ALC), a provider of marine transportation services, announced that it has received full refund of all instalment payments made in connection with the now-cancelled shipbuilding contracts with Uljanik d.d. and 3Maj Shipyard of Croatia.Algoma entered into five shipbuilding contracts with 3Maj Shipyard, an operating unit of Uljanik d.d of Croatia. According to a press release from Algoma, after considerable delay, the first of the five vessels was delivered in 2018; however, Algoma cancelled the remaining four contracts as the shipyard’s financial difficulties led to a much-publicized attempt to refinance the company and shipyard management was unable to put forward a credible plan that would lead to completion of the remaining hulls.

Australia’s new east coast supply chain alternative Port of Newcastle has marked an important milestone in the development of the Newcastle Bulk Terminal.A press release from the company said that the dismantling of the old ship unloaders is now complete, with bulk cargo hoppers now in place to provide continuity of trade while the new ship unloader and conveyor system is constructed.The old ship unloaders at the Kooragang 2 berth have been a feature of the Walsh Point precinct since 1968. The two rail mounted ship unloaders were established at what was then known as 'Rotten Row' to handle dry bulk products including fertiliser, rock phosphatic, ores and meals.

Algoma Central Corporation, the largest fleet of dry and liquid bulk carriers on the Great Lakes–St. Lawrence Waterway, is adding the crews from 27 of its vessels to an expanding network of whale watchers. For the first time, the crews on Algoma’s self-unloaders, bulkers, tankers and cement carriers will collect data about the whales they see on their journeys this summer."Algoma is committed to providing sustainable and environmentally responsible marine transportation,” said Gregg Ruhl, Algoma’s Chief Operating Officer.

Cargotec has signed an agreement with JCE Invest AB to establish a joint venture, Bruks Siwertell Group, specialised in dry bulk handling. The new joint venture will own Siwertell AB (previously part of Kalmar Business Area within Cargotec) and BRUKS Holding AB (previously part of JCE Group). Both companies are world-leading suppliers of bulk materials handling solutions. Cargotec will own 48% of the shares in Bruks Siwertell Group, and JCE Invest AB will own the rest, 52%. The ownerships are included to venturers' consolidated financial statements in accordance with the applicable regulation. The transaction has been signed and closed on 9 May 2018. "This joint venture supports Cargotec's strategy to focus on container ports, heavy industrial segment and logistics.

SMT Shipping  and The CSL Group announced they have entered into an agreement for CSL to acquire 50% of Eureka Shipping, SMT's pneumatic cement vessel business. The new joint venture will allow Eureka and CSL to combine expertise, resources and innovative technologies to expand services to customers in the seaborne cement powder and fly ash transportation markets around the world. CSL's Australian cement shipping business is not included in the joint venture. "The joint venture represents an important step in CSL's strategy to increase its presence in the global construction material sector," said Louis Martel, President and CEO of The CSL Group. Pontchartrain Materials Company finds innovative solution for barge unloading applications. Located in New Orleans, La., Pontchartrain Materials Corporation, LLC provides aggregates to general contractors as well as asphalt and ready-mix companies. In addition to their chief product, limestone, the family-owned company sells recycled concrete and recycled asphalt. Pontchartrain sources the material from quarries in northern states, transferring it down the Mississippi River by barge to one of three company aggregate yards or directly to customers in the New Orleans and surrounding area.

Algoma Central Corporation, a leading provider of marine transportation services, announced that the first Equinox Class self-unloader, the seaway-max size Algoma Niagara, arrived at the Canadian port of Sept Iles, Quebec on November 1st. The Algoma Niagara is the fifth Equinox Class vessel in Canada and she joins her four gearless sister ships in the Algoma fleet. The vessel is currently undergoing inspections and re-flagging as a Canadian vessel before beginning commercial operations. “We are very pleased to see the Algoma Niagara in her home waters” said Gregg Ruhl, Chief Operating Officer of Algoma. “The performance of the Equinox Class has met all our objectives for efficiency and reliability”, Mr. Ruhl continued.

India's V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port is all set for a four-fold increase in the capacity of two of its Coal Jetties – Jetty I and II from 6.25 million metric tonnes per annum to 24 MTPA. The state-run power utility Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco)  has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with VOC, Tuticorin for the construction of new Coal Jetty I and provision of shore unloaders and conveyor systems. The Minister of Shipping and Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Minister for Electricity, Prohibition and Excise, Government of Tamil Nadu P. Thangamani were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Gadkari said that the project would benefit both Tangedco and the VOCPT.

Earlier this month, BigLift Shipping’s Happy Dynamic successfully transported two 560 mt Siwertell Continuous Ship Unloaders (CSUs) from Chioggia, Italy, to Liverpool, UK. The CSUs are 35 m high and 24 m wide and, when in service, have a discharge capacity of 1,200 tons / hour. Both were loaded completely assembled – ready to be taken into service after discharge. The CSUs were loaded in a tandem lift operation by Happy Dynamic’s two 400 mt cranes. To reduce forces on the machines during the sea voyage, the CSUs were placed on Happy Dynamic’s tween deck and were lashed thoroughly using numerous wires as well as a pull bar system on the CSUs’ inlet. With the CSUs’ exceptional height the vessel sailed with open hatches.

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has received an order for gravity self-unloading systems for two 29,800 dwt bulk carriers (lakers) from the Yangzijiang shipyard, in China. The vessels will be delivered late 2017 / early 2018 to Canadian Great Lakes operator, Algoma. The order was booked into the first quarter 2016 order intake. "MacGregor enjoys a good, long-term relationship with the Yangzijiang shipyard," said Mikael Hägglund, Sales Manager, Selfunloaders. The contract will see MacGregor deliver a highly-automated, efficient self-unloading system to each of the new vessels. The system is designed for a maximum unloading rate of 5,450t/h for stone or iron ore and 4,360t/h for coal.

The first B.Delta43 vessel, M/V Venture Goal, was delivered to the Hamburg Bulk Carriers GmbH (HBC) in January 2015. The Deltamarin design has also attracted yet another customer, as Phoenix Shipping & Trading ordered four B.Delta43 handysize bulk carriers at Qingshan Shipyard. The first B.Delta43 vessel for the German shipowner HBC was successfully sea-trialed and delivered on January 24, 2015 at a ceremony at Qingshan Shipyard of Sinotrans & CSC SBICO. The delegation and top management of HBC who attended the ceremony expressed their satisfaction with the ship’s performance, as observed during the conducted trials, where B.Delta43 confirmed predictions on speed and deadweight to a very high accuracy.

The Mumbai Port Trust has resolved to create a cement terminal that will cater for the needs of the city of Mumbai. The city of Mumbai consumes approximately 1.25 MMT cement per annum to meet its developmental needs. Currently, this cement is moved by road/rail through neighboring states necessitating entry and exit of nearly 350 trucks per day, congesting the already overstrained city roads. In its bid to decongest the city roads, without affecting the city’s requirement of cement, the Port of Mumbai, which shares 141 years long symbiotic relation with the city of Mumbai, has in its Board meeting on 27.3.2015 resolved to lease 2.5 hectares of its land at Petroleum Godown to M/s. Deltamarin reported that its B.Delta family has scored further success as the Vulica Shipping Co. Ltd ordered the first ever B.Delta68 SUL (Self-Unloading) vessels. The order for the two bulk carriers was placed with the Chinese Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. Deltamarin’s design contract with Hantong shipyard covers approval design (basic and detail), procurement handling and site assistance. The contract value is about €3 millioin, and the estimated contract period is 10 months. Delivery of the vessels is planned to take place before July 2017. According to the designer, the B.Delta68 SUL is a Panamax sized self-unloading bulk carrier featuring a state of the art, fuel efficient and environmental friendly design.

Algoma Central Corporation announced that it has acquired a 2009-built handy size self-unloading ocean class vessel, the Gypsum Integrity, from Gypsum Transportation Limited. The vessel is being renamed the Algoma Integrity. In addition, the company announced that that it has signed contracts with a subsidiary of Uljanik d.d. of Croatia, for the construction of two new Equinox Class 650 foot self-unloading dry bulk lake freighters. These contracts are contingent on the delivery by the shipyard of acceptable security for construction installments required under the contracts.
