A new agreement between ABB Turbocharging, Hyundai Global Service (HGS) and Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Engine & Machinery Division (HHI-EMD) has established a ‘total service solution’ for ABB and Hyundai customers.Under the agreement, ABB Turbocharging will support HGS in providing long-term maintenance and service to its customers. Sembcorp Retains Asia's Top Cruise Ship Repair Position

Singapore-based shipbuilder Sembcorp Marine cemented its position as Asia’s top cruise ship repair and upgrade solutions provider in 2018 with the successful completion of repairs on the Costa Fortuna – the Group’s 10th and final cruise ship project this year.Operated by Costa Crociere, the 1,358-cabin vessel sailed away from Sembcorp Marine’s Admiralty Yard yesterday, joining a bevy of luxury liners that underwent repairs and upgrades at Sembcorp Marine facilities in the past 12 months.These included six vessels from leading cruise brands and long-term partners Carnival Cruises, Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, and one from new customer Norwegian Cruise Line.Already…

Wärtsilä, CMS Sign on as WinGD Service Providers

Propulsion engine manufacturer Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD) said it has recently signed agreements enabling Wärtsilä Services and CSSC Marine Service Co. Ltd. (CMS) to act as Authorized Global Service Providers. The agreements are valid from January 1, 2018, and allow both providers to offer support for all two-stroke engine brands from Winterthur Gas & Diesel, namely WinGD, Wärtsilä and Sulzer. The support includes delivery of spare parts, provision of service engineers, reconditioning and overhaul work on components, training, upgrade solutions and maintenance agreements.

Wärtsilä Extends Service Agreement with WinGD

Wärtsilä said it has signed a 10-year service partnership agreement with the Swiss company Winterthur Gas & Diesel Ltd. (WinGD), a developer of two-stroke low-speed gas and diesel engines used for propulsion power in merchant shipping. Wärtsilä, ABB Expand Engine Performance Partnership

Having signed an agreement to expand their cooperation in lifecycle service offerings, ABB has granted Wärtsilä the Authorized Service Provider status for standard maintenance of ABB turbochargers installed with Wärtsilä four-stroke engines. The companies say customers will benefit from enhanced engine performance optimization over the lifecycle as a result. MAN Bags Danaos Shipping Propeller Order

MAN Diesel & Turbo has won the order to supply Danaos Shipping Co. Ltd. with fixed pitch Kappel propellers, propeller boss caps with fins, and Engine Power Limitation for two container vessels – the 8,500 TEU ‘CSCL Europe’ and ‘CSCL America’. Mr. Dimitrios Vastarouchas, Technical Director & Deputy Chief Operating Officer of Danaos said: “At Danaos we look forward to have the vessels upgraded. Our R&D Department has conducted very thorough investigations before concluding what the right upgrade solutions for these vessels are and we are confident that the vessels will be highly competitive in the market once upgraded”. Both container vessels are powered by MAN B&W 12K98MC-C main engines rated at 68,520 kW at 104 RPM.

MAN Diesel & Turbo Updates Turbocharger Safety Warning

MAN Diesel & Turbo SE has released an update to Alert Service Bulletin ASB2013/02/18 containing important safety information related to NA and NR type grey cast iron turbochargers. the integration of turbocharger type NA29/S into ASB2013/02/18. Lloyd's Register said all vessels that are potentially affected will have the three letter memo ‘MAN’ placed on Class Direct. The memo will contain the following text: “Owners’ attention is drawn to Class News 43/2014 and MAN Alert Service Bulletin ASB2013/02/18  regarding potential safety issues with NA and NR type turbochargers.

MAN Diesel & Turbo Approves Takeover of Kappel Propeller

The board of MAN Diesel & Turbo approved the company’s takeover of Kappel propeller,  including designs, software, and intellectual property, together with the continued cooperation of  Jens Julius Kappel. New fuel-saving and energy-efficient propulsion opportunities are available from the MAN Alpha propeller program, which now fully integrates the Kappel tip fin propeller blade designs for both controllable-pitch propellers and fixed-pitch propellers. “We have had a good cooperation with MAN Diesel & Turbo for almost 10 years, and our joint projects have gone well,” said JJ Kappel. “I hope that MAN will get the most out of the Kappel technology.
