Canadian E.Coast LNG Export Plans Progress Shell Deal

Pieridae Energy moved closer to building a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal on Canada's East Coast after taking ownership of fields from Royal Dutch Shell which will feed gas into the plant, the company said. The Goldboro LNG terminal would be the first on Canada's East Coast and compete with the growing number of plants on the U.S. Gulf Coast, hoping its shorter distance to Europe and further west will help sell its LNG by cutting shipping costs.Pieridae said in a statement late on Thursday it had closed a C$190 million ($145 million) acquisition of Shell's gas assets in Alberta's Foothills region, giving it most of the gas…

Natural Gas to be 29% of World’s Energy Supply by 2050

The global oil demand will peak in the mid-2020s and gas demand will keep rising to 2033, says DNV GL.Gas demand will then plateau, and the fuel will remain dominant until the end of the forecast period in 2050, when it will account for over 29% of the world’s energy supply, it said.Significant investment will be required to ensure production meets demand, including realising the potential from stranded gas reserves and for reserve replacement. DNV GL forecasts global upstream gas capital expenditure to reach USD 737 billion (bn) in 2025, and USD 587 billion in 2050.According to  2019 Energy Transition Outlook, a report by DNV GL, unconventional onshore gas will increase from 2019 right through to the end of the forecast period, growing by 68% from 2017 production levels.

Sound Energy Starts Drilling Well in Eastern Morocco

Moroccan focused upstream gas company Sound Energy confirmed that the drilling at TE-10, the second well of a planned three exploration well campaign in Eastern Morocco, has commenced. The TE-10 well will test the North East Lakbir prospect in the Company's Greater Tendrara permit and is located approximately 25 kilometres to the northeast of the recently awarded Tendrara production concession. The well is designed to test both a material TAGI stratigraphic trap and a smaller TAGI structural closure. The North East Lakbir stratigraphic trap has updated mid case potential on a gross (100%) basis of 2.7 Tcf GOIP (4.5 Tcf GOIP upside case and a 1.5 Tcf GOIP low case) with a Sound Energy internally estimated chance of success of 14%.TE-10 lies within the stratigraphic trap…

OGCI Pledges to Tackle Methane Emissions

The Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI) has announced a target to reduce by 2025 the collective average methane intensity of its aggregated upstream gas and oil operations by one fifth to below 0.25%, with the ambition to achieve 0.20%, corresponding to a reduction by one third. The methane intensity refers to the methane that gets lost in the atmosphere when producing oil and gas, as a percentage of the gas sold. This effort represents a significant milestone in tackling a key issue in the fight against climate change and underlines OGCI’s stance in working together to support the goals of the Paris Agreement.Achieving the agreed intensity target of 0.25% by the end of 2025 would reduce collective emissions by 350,000 tonnes of methane annually, compared to the baseline of 0.32% in 2017.

Global Oil Demand to Peak in 2023

While DNV GL’s model predicts global oil demand to peak in 2023, demand for gas will continue to rise until 2034. New resources will be required long after these dates to continue replacing depleting reserves. DNV GL’s 2018  Energy Transition Outlook, an independent forecast of the world energy mix in the lead-up to 2050, predicts global upstream gas capital expenditure to grow from USD960 billion (bn) in 2015, to a peak of USD1.13 trillion in 2025. Upstream gas operating expenditure is set to rise from USD448 bn in 2015 to USD582 bn in 2035, when operational spending will be at its highest.“The energy transition will be made up of many sub-transitions. Our Outlook affirms that the switch in demand from oil to gas has already begun.

SAACKE Water Boiler Ordered for FLNG

SAACKE Marine Systems received an initial order from Japan-based JGC Corporation in June 2014 to deliver a complete high temperature water boiler system – consisting of a fired hot water boiler with a dual fuel burner and two heat recovery units – for PETRONAS’ second floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility. "Japan is a key international shipbuilding market for SAACKE. That's why the order is a great success for our company, particularly in relation to the current market situation," said Peter Breidenich, Director Business Unit Marine Systems. Specifically, the SAACKE heat recovery units utilize the hot flue gas generated by gas turbines to produce hot water for the heating system.
