BAE Systems Awarded Two Navy Contract Modifications

U.S. BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair, San Diego, California, is being awarded a $13,684,941 modification to a previously awarded cost-plus-award-fee/incentive-fee contract (N00024-11-C-4408) for the USS Howard (DDG 83) fiscal 2014 selected restricted availability (SRA). Work will be performed in San Diego, California, and is expected to be completed by February 2015. Fiscal 2014 operations and maintenance (Navy) and working capital fund contract funding in the amount of $13,684,941 will be obligated at the time of award. Contract funds in the amount of $12,793,832 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Southwest Regional Maintenance Center, San Diego, California, is the contracting activity.

USS Stout Maintenance Contract for BAE Systems

US Department of Defence informs it has awarded a Navy SRA contract modification to BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair, Norfolk, Virginia, for the planned maintenance of USS Stout (DDG 55). The contract is a US$30,801,080 undefinitized contract modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-10-C-4308). DoD explain that an SRA includes the planning and execution of depot-level maintenance, alterations, and modifications that will update and improve the ship's military and technical capabilities. Work will be performed in Norfolk, Virginia, and is expected to be completed by October 2014. Fiscal 2014 operations & maintenance, Navy and fiscal 2014 other procurement, Navy funds in the amount of $22,463,961 are being obligated at time of award.

BAE Systems Awarded USS Bulkeley Contract Modification

U.S. Department of Defence, Navy informs that contract modification has been awarded to BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair, Norfolk, Virginia. The award is a US$11,344,264 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-10-C-4308) for the USS Bulkeley (DDG 84) fiscal 2014 'selected restricted availability'. ('A selected restricted availability' includes the planning and execution of depot-level maintenance, alterations, and modifications that will update and improve the ship's military and technical capabilities. Work will be performed in Norfolk, Virginia, and is expected to be completed by September 2014. Fiscal 2014 operations and maintenance, Navy contract funds in the amount of $11,344,264 will be obligated at time of award and will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

Austal’s Walpole Wins National Award

Austal Purchases Systems Integrator, ATI

Austal announced that an agreement had been reached to acquire Canberra based Australian Technology Information Pty Ltd (ATI). Cargotec Transfers Battle Tanks Between Ships

Designed to transfer military vehicles between ships at sea to support US Army and Marine Corps land forces as part of the US Navy’s Sea Base strategy, Cargotec’s innovative test article vehicle transfer system (TAVTS) has now successfully completed sea trials. These were carried out by the US Navy’s Strategic and Theatre Sealift Program Office (PMS 385) which is part of Program Executive Office Ships (PEO Ships). TAVTS is part of a risk-reduction effort by the US Department of Defence Maritime Prepositioning Force (Future) when transferring military vehicles between ships at sea.

MTU Names Reisig Head of Gov’t Affairs

MTU has recently appointed Richard Reisig as its head of governmental affairs in Washington D.C. In this role, Reisig will oversee the activities of MTU’s Washington D.C. office and assist with the sale of MTU engines to both the foreign and domestic defence base. Before joining MTU, Reisig worked for GE Transportation Systems in Washington, D.C. as a Director of Business Development for Government Accounts. He brings to this position several years of management, sales, project management and legislative experience gained during his previous employment with GE Energy, the Office of Senator John Warner, Allscripts Healthcare and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

Austal USA Secures Order for Vehicle-Passenger Ferry

Austal USA has secured an order for the construction of a 192-ft. vehicle-passenger ferry from Milwaukee-based Lake Express LLC. The aluminum catamaran will be the largest vessel so far constructed at the company’s purpose-built shipyard in Mobile, Ala. · The first high-speed vehicle-passenger ferry to operate on Lake Michigan. With capacity for 253 passengers and 46 cars, the Auto Express 58 will be capable of 34 knots. It will link the cities of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Muskegon in Michigan, crossing Lake Michigan in just over two hours, thus saving passengers a lengthy drive around the southern shore of Lake Michigan, including traffic congestion in Chicago. The service is scheduled to begin by the summer of 2004.
