Kongsberg Discovery Wins US Navy DIU Contract

Kongsberg Discovery announced a Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) award to assist in the U.S. Navy’s Large Displacement Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (LDUUV) prototype.Kongsberg Discovery has been awarded a contract with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) to rapidly deliver HUGIN Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) capabilities for the U.S. Military. The total contract  could result in the Navy acquiring HUGIN Endurance and HUGIN Superior deep-water AUV systems.HUGIN Endurance, one of the newest members in the HUGIN AUV family, measures 39-ft. long and nearly 4-ft.

Japan 'Industry Day' Highlights Global Defense Partnerships

Earlier this year, a high-level defense event simply dubbed 'Industry Day' was held in Japan, an event aimed at strengthening the supply chain to the Japanese Self-Defense Forces equipment and strengthening Asia-Pacific Security and the Defense Industries.The event was significant in that the Japanese government has signaled its intention to increase defense spending, particularly with heightened tensions in the region from both China and North Korea. U.S. Yards: Competing – and Winning – Here and Across the Big Pond

Louisiana-based Metal Shark powers into the second half of 2018 with a healthy backlog, multiple recent deliveries into foreign markets, and a portfolio of patrol craft that has attracted multiple clients – here and abroad. Key patrol boat contracts for this rapidly expanding builder include the U.S. Coast Guard Response Boat – Small (RB-S). Over 300 of these units are service since the award of the contract in 2012 and, says Metal Shark, new units are in production and shipping weekly. Separately, over 50 of the U.S. Navy Force Protection Boat – Medium (FPB-M) have already been delivered and are in service. That contract, too, is still active and boats are shipping regularly. Looking ahead, Metal Shark was awarded a contract in October 2017 to produce up to 50 of the U.S.

President Trump: "End Sequesteration"

JA Moody Acquires Pima Valve

Acquisition expands operational capabilities to include design and manufacturing and demonstrates commitment to U.S. based manufacturing sector. Moody says that it will provide a broader suite of products for its marine and commercial customer base. JA Moody, a privately held family business with its headquarters in Malvern, PA, that has been distributing valves and actuators to the U.S. DOD and commercial entities for 65 years, today announced that it’s parent company has completed the acquisition of Pima Valve. Pima Valve, headquartered in Chandler, Arizona produces a wide variety of bronze, flanged marine products and is a recognized leader in the commercial and marine valve market for multi-turn product. In 2017 Pima Valve celebrated its 50th year in business.

Revolution Lighting Awarded US Navy Contract

Revolution Lighting Technologies, Inc., a provider of LED technologies to federal and military agencies, said it has been awarded a Department of Defense (DoD) contract through the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) to supply 2,300 of its 2 foot T8 LED tubes to the U.S. Navy. Revolution Lighting was selected because its LED lighting products incorporate Buy American Act (BAA) and Trade Agreements Act (TAA) compliant components, ensuring they meet the strict requirements needed for implementation into U.S. Navy vessels. US DoD: Navy Patroling in S.China Sea

The U.S. Navy sent a warship on Tuesday within 12 nautical miles of two artificial islands built by China in the South China Sea, a U.S. defence official told Reuters, in a challenge to China's territorial claims in the area. The official said the patrol was carried out by the destroyer USS Lassen near Subi and Mischief reefs in the Spratly archipelago, features that were formerly submerged at high tide before China began a massive dredging project to turn them into islands in 2014. "The operation has begun ... It will be complete within a few hours," said the official. Reporting by Tim Kelly

18 Kalmar RT 240s for US DoD

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has received an order to supply a further 18 rough terrain container handlers to the United States Department of Defense. Destined to replace older equipment, the Kalmar RT240s will be delivered to multiple locations across the United States by the end of the year 2015. The total value of the order is approximately EUR 16 million (USD 18 million). The Kalmar RT240 provides exceptional performance, able to handle containerised loads of up to 53,000lbs (24 tonnes) across all types of terrain. Commenting on the order, Stephen Speakes, President and CEO at Kalmar RT Center (KRTC) in Cibolo, Texas, said, "This is yet another endorsement of the great quality of Kalmar's solutions for rough terrain applications.

MTN Launches Social Media Threat Intelligence

US DoD Navy Charter of Product Tankship Extended

Amongst the latest listing of US Department of Defense, Navy, contracts, the existing time charter of a U.S.-flagged, ice-class certified, double-hulled product tanker of Maersk Line Ltd. of Norfolk Va. is extended. The $14,223,440 modification is under a previously awarded firm-fixed-price contract (N00033-11-C-5400) has been extended. The vessel provides worldwide bulk fuel support to the Department of Defense, including a delivery each year to Antarctica for the National Science Foundation and a delivery each year to Greenland for the Department of Defense, Defense Logistics Agency-Energy. Work will be performed worldwide, and is expected to be completed December 2014. If all option periods are exercised, work will continue through November 2016.

Most US DoD Civilians to be Sent on 11-day Unpaid Leave

As you are fully aware, the Department of Defense is facing a historic shortfall in our budget for the current fiscal year. This is the result of current law that went into effect March 1. It imposes deep across-the-board cuts on DoD and other federal agencies. Combined with higher than expected wartime operating costs, we are now short more than $30 billion in our operation and maintenance (O&M) accounts – which are the funds that we use to pay most civilian employees, maintain our military readiness, and respond to global contingencies. The Department has been doing everything possible to reduce this shortfall while ensuring we can defend the nation, sustain wartime operations, and preserve DoD's most critical asset – our world-class civilian and military personnel.

Corrosion Battle Conference at NATO School

Officials from NACE International & ministries of defense convene to compare best practices in combatting material degradation. The U.S. and its allies are serious about battling corrosion on aging aircraft, ships, submarines, and ground vehicles. Officials from the US DoD Corrosion Policy and Oversight Office and the German, French, and U.K. ministries of defense recently compared best practices in combatting material degradation on weapon systems and facilities during a four-day workshop at the NATO School in Oberammergau, Germany. "This is the first time that policy and technical experts have convened to share corrosion prevention policies, practices, and scientific expertise since the NATO School was founded in 1954," said Daniel J.

US DoD Extends Austal Chartering Contract

The Dept of Defense exercise a 6-month option period for worldwide charter of a US-flagged passenger/cargo ferry. The vessel will support the Marine Corps, Third Marine Expeditionary Force, and will operate out of Okinawa, Japan. US Department of Defense state that contract funds in the amount of $6,968,500 are obligated for fiscal 2013.  Work will be performed at sea worldwide, and is expected to be completed by August 2013.  Military Sealift Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.

Cambridge Consultants completes new trials on Iridium-based global push-to-talk radio system; Successful trials of new components of US Department of Defense Distributed Tactical Communications System. EF Johnson $1.1m Order From U.S. DOD

EF Johnson Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:EFJI) announced that it has received an order from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) for $1.1m to provide a maritime wireless solution for the customer.
