Congress Salutes Navy League

Congressman Ed Schrock (R-VA) along with 50 other members of the House of Representatives, yesterday introduced a Concurrent Resolution congratulating the Navy League of the United States on its 100th anniversary. In a letter to their colleagues soliciting co-sponsors, Congressman Schrock noted that “The Navy League was founded in 1902 with the encouragement of President Theodore Roosevelt. The letter explains that “The Navy League works closely with the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and US-flag Merchant Marine through a network of nearly 78,000 members and over 330 councils in the U.S. Representative Schrock, who co-chairs the House of Representative’s Navy/Marine Corps House Caucus…

Scholarship Honors Navy Veteran and Offers Educational Opportunity

A group of shipmates from the now decommissioned U.S. Navy destroyer USS John A. Bole (DD-755) have established the “LT William G. Faris Scholarship Fund” in memory of a fellow shipmate. The fund benefits the Naval Sea Cadet Corps Scholarship program and will be awarded annually. The Naval Sea Cadet Corps Scholarship program, which consists of a “named scholarship” program, was established to provide financial assistance to deserving Cadets who wished to further their education at the college level. Since program inception 198 scholarships have been awarded to 188 cadets totaling over $300,000. Bill Faris served as the Weapons Officer onboard the USS John A. Bole in the mid 1960s.
